What They're Saying About The Los Olivos Cafe...
Sunset Magazine “Two quests can be satisfied at once in this bustling establishment; one for a good lunch or dinner, the other for an interesting wine (local or non) to sip with it or pack home. Tom Meyer and Richard Roe, executive chef and sous chef, respectively, are partial to Italian specialties; try their chicken and portabello ravioli in white wine-cream sauce if it's listed.” Los Olivos, about 40 minutes from the city, is more or less the center of Santa Barbara wine country. There's a lot packed into this little town, including two art galleries, two antiques shops, a hand-full of restaurants and plenty of tasting rooms (I stopped counting at seven). Most feature a single winery…. The Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Café has more than 500 wines, 90 percent of which are from the Central Coast. Get a bottle there …. Boston Globe, “ California 's Santa Ynez is a hot new wine country” “Los Olivos looks like the set of an old Western movie with a wide main street lined with false-fronted wooden-frame buildings . . . now occupied by art galleries, restaurants, antique shops, and tasting rooms. The coziest is probably Los Olivos Café, a hangout for locals that has a nouvelle California menu, original art on the walls, and a good selection of wines from area boutique wineries.”
Elmer Dills (KABC-TV & KRLA Radio Los Angeles Restaurant Critic) “The setting is truly rustic wine country, with an eclectic California cuisine. Try some of the seasonal house specialties, such as the winter squash risotto with honey-roasted walnuts, rosemary and Parmesan cheese. A starter of Bruschetta pairs well with a selection from their central coast and imported wines (many by the glass), or a cheese plate with Kalamata olives, dried fruit and roasted nuts. . .You can't go wrong when it comes to honest values {here}.”
The Santa Barbara Independent “How Green is My Valley” “The place to eat is from a choice of four favorites . . .Most often, Los Olivos Café wins out. Owner Sam Marmorstein opened this Mediterranean-style eatery in 1995 and the chefs offer a new special every day. I like the Chinese chicken salad, but I guess that a local's favorite would be the roasted vegetable sandwich.”
