" This is the place!! The food here is beyond fantastic! Everything we ate was great as well as the service. There is one thing that I want to RAVE about! The absolute BEST mushroom ravioli's I have EVER eaten!!! No joke, I dream about them. My wife and I make the drive to this beautiful restaurant mainly for the ravioli's! Try them, you will leave a happy person. Again, the service is always on-point, the wine selection superb and the people watching is fun. 5-Star Rating! " Dutchman 101, Santa Barbara, CA, Trip Advisor.com Review, 4/3/2016

"Doesn't disappoint! We changed our itinerary to be able to dine here again. Great place with wonderful food, good service, and fabulous wines. Well worth a visit. " UltimateWines, Redondo Beach, CA, TripAdvisor.com, 4/2/2016

"Excellent service! The food and wine were delicious. Great pairing suggestions! " OpenTable Diner Since 2002, opentable.com Review, 3/31/2016

"Lunch in Los Olivos: There are only a few places to eat in Los Olivos and the Wine Merchant doesn't disappoint. We split a salad and pizza and both were well prepared, tasty and reasonably priced. Wait staff was efficient and helpful and made the visit pleasurable. " Ohtobeinsandiego, San Diego, CA, TripAdvisor.com, 3/28/2016

"Quick service, and friendly! Go with the mushroom ravioli if you want a medium sized portion and something savory. It was really tasty! " Crystal R., Costa Mesa, CA, CA, Yelp Review, 3/26/2016

"What a fantastic find! Stopped here on the way up to Paso Robles. Everything is made from scratch. My wife had the salmon and I had pasta with meat sauce. I normally don't leave anything left on the plate but the portions were so large that I had to. Good service, great food. This is a must stop if in the area. Even the bread with the olive oil and spices was out of this world. We are looking forward to going back. " Randy G., Laguna Nigue, CA, Yelp Review, 3/19/2016

"This is our third or fourth time. Always fabulous Little else to say but the BEST! Waiter gave us individual attention for wine and the menu. Food was outstanding. The salads are among the best--chicken curry and steak cobb salad. " OpenTable Diner Since 2012, opentable.com Review, 3/17/2016

"Very pleasant wine tasting and cafe. I dined outside in the evening, very nice atmosphere; small town feel and directly across from Fess Parker Country Wine Inn. Huge wine list and fantastic breads and pizzas, I ordered Sopressato pizza, was so good paired with a nice Viognier wine.Los Olivos was a gem for a short getaway. Go there, you won't regret it! %-Star Rating! " Cliff D., Laguna Nigue, CA, Yelp Review, 3/15/2016

"Best experience of the trip! Situated in the heart of Los Olivos, this restaurant was definitely one of my favorites on the trip. The food was excellent, service on point, and the wine selection and pricing was great and reasonable, respectively. I can't wait to go back! " Devon G, Houston, Texas, TripAdvisor.com, 3/10/2016

"We really enjoyed the original and different food. The butternut squash appetizer and the short rib pasta dish were delicious. We also liked the wine close-out page, which allowed us to try a new and interesting wine. " Marbor, opentable.com Review, 3/3/2016

"Food is consistently good! Always enjoy this place! Staff is friendly, menu is broad, "the wine wall" is fun to inspect. I've eaten here probably four times and been happy with each one. Small downside...one small bathroom with a seemingly continual line. " Marcie E, Huntington Beach,, CA, TripAdvisor.com, 3/3/2016

"The first visit was in Nov 2015. Perfect evening. We treated our Santa Barbara son and girlfriend to the Merchant Mar 2016. Another perfect night all around. The WM Cafe delivers laid-back impeccable service and food selections. Will be back on our next swing through Los Olivos! " OpenTable Diner Since 2014, opentable.com Review, 3/3/2016

"5-Star Rating! Had to eat something, because we were getting a Lil drunk from the wine tasting =) I had the Turkey Burger, Gina had the Brisket Sandwich ... only one word could accurately describe them ... Awesome! Don't miss this place " Eric B., Long Beach, CA, Yelp Review, 3/1/2016

"Great food! This is my second time here and the food is really good. They have the best gnocchi outside of going to Italy. There is also a good wine selection & if it's a nice night sit outside. " Carolyn B, Cape Canaveral, Florida, TripAdvisor.com, 2/28/2016

"I booked a table for myself and 9 other girlfriends for dinner. We were celebrating my bachelorette and the staff at Los Olivos Wine Merchant were outstanding. A few of the girls were stuck in LA traffic, so we were 10 minutes late our 8pm reservation and they still accommodated us despite closing at 8:30. We were sat at a large table in a back room and it felt like we had the whole restaurant to ourselves. The servers were patient and helpful (thanks for dealing with a bunch of really excited girls!!) and the food was FANTASTIC. Everyone absolutely loved their dish. The wine was so great that we ended up buying 11 bottles before leaving!! " OpenTable Diner Since 2013, opentable.com Review, 2/27/2016

"We arrived early and the hostess, Jennifer, seated us immediately. Armando, our outstanding service staff was there to answer questions, guide us through the menu and make recommendations when asked. We chose the 2010 Dragonette Cellars Pinot to accompany the lamb dish and Salmon. The food was outstanding and the entire experience wonderful. " RonB, opentable.com Review, 2/26/2016

"There are a couple of great dining options in Los Olivos, but this one is more than just a meal, it's an experience. Lunched here yesterday, first time since last July. Sat at the bar. Even something as simple as grilled vegetables appetizer and turkey burger lunch entree was prepared creatively, very tasty. We did the "create your own" wine flight and discovered some great new wines. Wine expert Andy helped us find some intriguing selections from the wine store section of the room. Every time we visit here, it's always a special occasion, and never a disappointment. 5-Star Rating! " R.C. G., Woodland Hills, CA, Yelp Review, 2/22/2016

"Amazing food! I was here wine tasting with my best friend and it you are up this way make sure you stop for lunch - wine shopping in the great selection is a plus. " Michelle D, Redondo Beach, CA, TripAdvisor.com, 2/16/2016

"We had been here many years ago for lunch and I always remembered loving the salad I had. So go back for Valentine's Day was a no brainer. Dinner was fantastic as was the service. I had the spinach salad to start which was wonderful and lightly dressed. Then I had the special sword fish. It was nicely grilled and the lobster risotto with it was delicious. My husband enjoyed the hearts of romaine ceasar salad and the lamb shanks. Lamb shanks are always surprising as it looks like it is all bone but there was lots of meat on that bone. He was very pleased with it. Dessert for me was the fried apple tart with ice cream. Yummmmmy! My husband played it safe with vanilla ice cream. All in all, very good. Will go back next time we're in the area! " sgmiller, opentable.com Review, 2/15/2016

"One of my fav's! This was my 3rd time eating at this amazing place and my husbands 1st. Needless to say he can't wait to go back. Excellent food, great service, lovely ambience. A must for anyone visiting the Solvang area! " OpenTable Diner Since 2013, opentable.com Review,2/15/2016

"Best gluten free pizza crust ever! Now add gluten free pasta so we can enjoy the wonderful sauces!! " Hilltopgal, opentable.com Review, 2/7/2016

"Hip yet relaxed atmosphere. Fun place to have a meal; we had lunch and dinner here and found the service and the quality of the food to be excellent. Fun to check out all the wines for sale too. This place is a 10 minute drive from Solvang and you should make the trip -- you will have a better meal in Los Olivos. " pmow, Denver, CO, TripAdvisor.com, 2/7/2016

"While visiting the Santa Ynez area, we were fortunate to have made a reservation at the Wine Merchant Cafe. We were very very pleased with the menu selection and the service and quality of the food was outstanding. I had the lamb shank and my date had the scallops. We were really impressed with this restaurant. " joeltopdog, opentable.com Review,1/30/2016

"One of the great restaurants! Every time my wife and I go here we are very pleased. The food, the service and the atmosphere are excellent. My wife loves to sit next to the fireplace and the wine Is second to none. I regularly recommend this restaurant to friends and family and I never had someone not love it. " Daniel, opentable.com Review, 1/28/2016

"A great place for lunch after a day of wine tasting. It's also a good place to just sit down for a great glass of local vinos. And also a good place to leave with more wine, because it doubles as a very nice wine shop. " Tom M., Redondo Beach, CA, 1/26/2016

"5-Star Rating! We showed up on a Sunday night without a reservation, waited about 5-10 min for a table and were able to be seated. Our server (Kyle) was very nice and took really good care of us. The food came out with perfect timing and everything we got was DELICIOUS. The Alba (truffle) pizza was the best pizza I've ever had. " Jessica B, Pasadena, CA, 1/11/2016

"Grand Avenue only runs for a few blocks - MANY wine tasting places, this is the one open on New Year's Day, which was nice. Good food and wait staff VERY helpful! Thought the house wine pour was a bit too short for a wine tasting place, but the wine was LOVELY!" -Daniel K. of Seoul, South Korea, Trip Advisor Review, 1/7/2016

" We made a reservation for 4 adults and 2 kids. I tried the Greek Salad and Orecchiette. Food was tasty. The service was good. I lot of wine to chose from and they have a very cozy semi-private room in the back. " -Veronica R of Los Angeles, CA, Yelp Review, 1/5/2016

"Really nice holiday dinner with friends! We had a really lovely dinner out with six friends on a holiday weekend getaway. Cozy atmosphere and great service. All our meals were fantastic...Recommend short ribs, salmon, butter nut squash salad and Gnocchi. Desserts are amazing too! Been here twice now and I would go back!!" -Sis1124 of Los Angeles, CA, Trip Advisor Review, 12/23/2015

"Gluten free pizza crust is the lightest and crispest ever! Wonderful wine list - great, attentive service!." -Hilltopgal, OpenTable.com Review, 12/9/2015

"Amazing experience and exactly what we needed. Was referred by someone at the Firestone vineyard and wasn't disappointed. After an afternoon of wine tasting at a few different wineries, we popped in with no reservation. No problem. Cozy seating. Nicely buzzed. Ate our faces off and they even had options for the vegan. Coffee for me to get my head back in to the driving game but that didn't limit the fun for the other person at the table. They loved their wine and the food was amazing. Fabulous experience. Will definitely be back." -Erika K of Los Angeles, CA, Yelp Review, 12/6/2015

"Another great visit! If you want incredibly great foot, great service, great wine - go here! In the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley wine trail, stop here. I recently went back and ordered their special for the day of rib eye steak. OMG. This is the best steak in the Valley. " -MenuGuideGal, Solvang, CA, Trip Advisor Review, 12/5/2015

"Beautiful little café w/ lovely patio covered in wisteria vines. Had a wonderful lunch here a couple years ago on a winetasting trip with some girlfriends, and another great lunch here this week on Thanksgiving roadtrip with family. A little pricey, but everything is fresh and delicious. This time had salmon salad w/ lentils, steak cobb, and mushroom ravioli (oh my goodness - wow!); it was all incredible. A Los Olivos tradition. 5-Star Rating." -OpenTable Diner Since 2011, OpenTable.com Review, 11/22/2015

"We enjoyed a lovely lunch here on a recent Sunday, with my Father and Stepmom. The food was fabulous. I had that steak cobb salad and it was to die for. The dressing was so good, I am still thinking about it, and the steak was perfectly medium rare. The hubby had the brisket sandwich and loved it, Dad had the turkey sandwich and raved about it, especially the bread, and my stepmom had the salmon entree and said it was very good. The service was very good." -Rachel H. of Simi Valley, CA, Yelp Review, 11/19/2015

"Have been here twice now for lunch. Both times I ordered the mushroom ravioli, it is incredible. Wonderful wine, attentive staff. I am a huge fan." -A.B. of San Luis Obispo, CA, Yelp Review, 10/27/2015

"My husband and I ate here every night while we were in Los Olivos. Incredible homemade pastas. Start off with the bread with delicious olive oil that they sell there and the cheese plate. Our two favorite dishes were the Gnocchi and the Orecchiette. Amazing! Incredible flavor and ingredients." -Mairi G of Miami, FL, Yelp Review, 10/5/2015

"Definitely a sure bet if you want a delicious dinner. Food is always good and amazing wine list. If it's a nice night eat outside. Great restaurant!" -Gregsgirl, OpenTable.com Review, 9/26/2015

"The best spot in Los Olivos for lunch or dinner! The smoked brisket sandwich is my go to meal when I am here for lunch. They have a broad and interesting menu that can appeal to any palate. In addition the owner also makes his own wine and serves up tasting flights in the restaurant. The manager who works there is Matthew and really goes above and beyond to ensure each plate is perfect and that each guest is well taken care of. I highly recommend!!" -Kevin D. of Carpinteria, CA, Yelp Review, 9/23/2015

"Our Favorite Restaurant in Los Olivos! Our 'go to' place for lunch on our winery tours. Enormous wine selection with very savvy wait staff. Food is excellent!" -PsychJudy of Los Angeles, CA, Trip Advisor Review, 9/10/2015

"A charming, distinctive dining experience. Because this is also a retail wine shop with a great selection of local wines, the opportunity to select a wine and pay the equivalent of a small corkage fee is a rare treat. Food is beautifully prepared from quality ingredients. Recipes are simple and unique. Service is warm and personal with knowledgable wine servers enriching the experience." -Foodscouts, Opentable.com Review, 8/28/2015

"I just had the loveliest night, Karen our server was such a delight! She mentioned she had been there for 19 years and was such a great host, she walked us through all of our questions and helped us paired our wines accordingly. She was such a joy and made us feel confident about our orders, with the most lovely tact. We were able to sit outside with our pup, Riley. I had the salmon which was cooked to perfection and the most delicious bottle to go along with our meals with -- Karen's great recommendation. We will definitely be back as soon as we are back around the area! Thank for such a lovely night!" -Lorena J of New York, NY, Yelp Review, 8/24/2015

"Small town charm located in the Santa Ynez Valley, excellent food and service I totally recommend the ravioli it melts in your mouth!!!" -Tammy C of Santa Barbara, CA, Trip Advisor Review, 8/12/2015

"Beautiful restaurant. The food was nice - fresh ingredients prepared well. The service was a bit slow. Our server also had a table with a bachelorette party. That probably contributed to the inconsistent service." -Lucinda Z of Los Angeles, Yelp, 8/2/2015

"Amazing Baked Brie! My husband and I had dinner here to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary. The baked brie appetizer was to die for (and I am not a big fan of cheese in general). The pairing with arugula and balsamic vinegar really highlighted the nuttiness of the brie. I had the short ribs, and my husband had the salmon, both of which were delicious. " -Gilbert V,  Trip Advisor, 7/29/2015

"Nice! Pretty outdoors in quaint Los Olivos. Rueben and barbecued brisket sandwiches are very good. Outstanding wine list and very knowledgeable and friendly sommelier to help you navigate it. Great wine store. " -Like2eat, OpenTable, 7/28/2015

"Must dine here! My husband and I made a reservation based on the recommendation of some friends. We were not disappointed! Great food and great wine! We are taking 3 bottles back home to Texas with us. " -Forthworthfoodie, OpenTable.com, 7/25/2015

"The ambiance was great. Loved sitting on the porch outside. Salmon was a little dry. Skirt steak was delicious. Beet and burrata salad was fair. I recommend the tasting special: it was a good value and came with a glass of wine and dessert. " -Bonnie R. of Encino, CA, Yelp, 7/19/2015

"Went to dinner here with my boss and my girlfriend, the food was wonderful! I had the ravioli and my GF had the chicken, both were very delicious! We had a couple of bottles of wine (Rusack/Rancho Sisquoc) which were both great local wines. We had Tiramisu for dessert and it was so good. I definitely recommend this place for a great dinner with excellent service, we will be back again soon!" -Paul A of Santa Barbara, CA, Yelp, 7/11/2015

"Always excellent! It had been several years since I'd been here and I'd only been here for dinner - this time we came for lunch. I was not disappointed. The menu has good variety - I had the BBQ Brisket and it was very tasty. They have a great wine list - I had a glass of Provenance Pwave blend and it was fantastic! Our waiter wasn't so great, but everything else was. Would definitely go here again! 5-Star Rating! " -Michelle K of Calabasas, California, Trip Advisor, 7/2/2015

"Awesome dinner! I had family visiting from Australia and wanted to show them the Santa Inez Valley. This was our first meal and they were suitably impressed. Our waitress (wish I got her name) was fabulous, such a lovely person. My dad loves his wine but doesn't know Californian wine so she brought a few tastings to the table so he could choose the Pinot to have with his meal. We had fabulous starters, warm Brie, which was delicious and arancini balls and for entrees we had the steak, pasta & salmon. All were delicious. This place had such a great ambiance, a gorgeous restaurant in an equally gorgeous town. We will be back! " -Karen, Open Table, 7/1/2015

"Sitting al fresco under the vine-covered patio, enjoying a glass of local wine and one of the best pizzas ever is a dining event that ranks as one of the best! Salads made with fresh, local ingredients in season, a great selection of pizzas and pastas featuring ingredients for every taste, great coffee, huge wine list, and desserts to delight... all served with a side of welcome. The staff was warm and friendly, helpful, and made our meal perfect. I highly recommend this wonderful little cafe in the heart of Los Olivos. There is something for everyone! " -SheltieTraveller of Santa Susana Knolls, CA, Trip Advisor, 6/24/2015

"Lunch was awesome! I was with a group of 6 people and everyone had something different from salads, to salmon burger to my orecchiette pasta with sausage. The pasta was al dente which I like, and so flavorful. Everything looked and tasted very fresh. The wine list of course is not easy to choose from but they recommend a pairing with each dish which really helps. Will be back for dinner some day... " -Lisa N. of Castro Valley, CA, Yelp, 6/23/2015

"Great restaurant! Good food, good wine, good service, not much else needed to be said. Recommend it. They didn't have our reservation in the system when we arrived, but we were easily accommodated. " -oebradley62 of Miami, Florida, Trip Advisor, 6/11/2015

"A wonderful meal! We have enjoyed dinner here a year ago, and hoped that it had not changed, and we were not disappointed. The evening started off with kind greetings by the staff, and we will lucky enough to be served by Karen - a veteran of the Cafe. We did a wine tasting while we were there (fantastic) and Karen brought all the tastings to our table, so we could taste while reading the menu and enjoying our appetizers and dinner, and she brought each sample in it's own glass, so that you were never rushed to finish each sample. Dinner was marvelous. Two had a chicken pasta that was perfectly seasoned and cooked - to die for. Our friends shared a pizza that they raved about throughout the meal. We can't wait to go back again. " -JonfromLA, Los Angeles, CA, Trip Advisor, 6/2/2015

"A must try! Went for dinner on a Saturday. Made reservations at 5. Sat outside since it was still early enough to enjoy the daylight. Ordered the baked Bree appetizer, Perfectly done. For dinner we ordered the 3 course set menu. I would highly recommend on doing this for the price point that won't break the pocket book. Also tried the soup of the day, corn chowder. Loved it. Dinner ordered the beef short rib & the mushroom ravioli. The beef was taste and tender, the ravioli was very good with plenty of Sauce to soak up with bread. The selection has salad or soup, desert and also comes with a glass of red or white wine. Highly recommend! Great on customer service. 5-Star Rating! " -Chich68 of San Francisco, CA, TripAdvisor.com, 5/26/2015

"A great local choice for dining. We shared a very good pizza. The skirt steak was good but not exceptional. Many choices of. Local wines by the glass. " -VIP oftenouttasting, OpenTable.com, 5/11/2015

"Solid restaurant that we have frequented multiple times! My wife and I went to Los Olivos Wine Merchant and Cafe for lunch while on vacation in area. We had been to restaurant for dinner few years ago and wanted to try for lunch. It was great choice. It is located in downtown Los Olivos close to other restaurants, inns, shops and wine tasting rooms. The style is very California - casual and laid back - which I love. There is definitely large wine list and they sell bottles in adjacent shop. The menu is range of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, entrees including some pasta dishes and grilled items. There is nice outside seating area that was full so we chose to sit inside because we were very hungry. It is excellent choice and both times we have been have been great. I highly recommended and would go back again. " -u2fan56 of Coppell, Texas, Trip Advisor, 5/9/2015

"The ambience is really nice! We loved our dinners and our waiter was very good... He recommended a really good reasonably priced bottle of wine that was very good.  One strange thing to me is there is only one restroom and it's right off the lounge area, no hall or anything so if you are waiting to go in, you're standing near the lounge. Thank goodness there is a big selection of wine on the shelves close to that area, so you can take a look if you're waiting. Overall, worth the drive to have dinner. " -Kim B. of San Diego, CA, Yelp Review, 5/2/2015

"Great food! " -DWinNoHo, OpenTable.com, 5/1/2015

"Fabulous dinner! Great food and great service. The short ribs were so tender. Baked brie a perfect starter. Nicoise salad amazing. But the mushroom ravioli was unbelievable. Sounded nice but not exciting, but it is so good. No matter how full, do not pass on the S'mores dessert. What a great find. " -Beth M of Phoenix, Arizona,Trip Advisor Review, 4/25/2015

"Always on our list when we visit the area! I really like this place. We went again this past weekend and sat outside on the patio and the weather was beautiful. As another reviewer mentioned, there were some pesky flies but not so many that I regretted sitting outside. The service here is always top notch -- the food seems to vary quite a bit. Most of the time it's very good but there have been a few disappointments -- for example, we've had some out-of-this-world entrees here but we generally haven't found the desserts to be very good. Last weekend we had BBQ brisket sandwiches and they were great. I love that the servers always have wine recommendations and we've found their suggestions were good! 5-Star Rating! " -TammyO31 of Los Angeles, California,Trip Advisor Review, 4/25/2015

"Hubby and I needed to get away. Just us, no kiddies. And what better place to escape to than Los Olivos? Having remembered driving by this place a few years back and knowing that we had a day of wine tasting in store, I made an 11:30 reservation to start our day off well with vittles. I knew we were going to be drowning in wine right after, so although the wine wall was impressive, we didn't drink. Even so, food was the real winner here. I had the salmon, which was cooked to perfection; hubby's gnocchi was divine. Even their iced tea was something special; must be the water. Patio dining was pleasant on a spring morning in April: the town is so quiet and laid-back, and it was so easy to just get lost in conversation and enjoy each others' company. I can't recommend this place enough: go to get away, go with someone you love, slow down, and ENJOY ! " --Brittany B.of Santa Clarita, CA, Yelp Review, 4/21/2015

"Excellent relaxing lunch! We ate lunch at the Los Olivos Cafe for about the 5th time last week. We ate on the little patio and it was a gorgeous day. As always, the food was unique and excellent. Sitting there with unique dishes and a very good glass of wine - it could not have been better. We highly recommend it. " -glb7 of Los Angeles, California,Trip Advisor Review, 4/18/2015

"GREAT FOOD! The Los Olivos Cafe is open for lunch and dinner. It has terrific food. The short ribs are my favorite for dinner. They serve beer and wine. Reservations should be made if you are planning on dinner. Weekends and holidays are very busy. If you ever saw the movie " -Greg W of Solvang, California,Trip Advisor Review, 4/12/2015

"What an unusual, tasty, and satisfying salad! Curry chicken salad had the perfect ratio of celery, almonds, cranberries and small chunks of green apples to keep me interested to the very end. I've never had anything like it. I almost got the salmon, green lentils and kale salad but when we asked the waiter what was the most popular salad, his face lit up talking about the chicken curry. I had to try. Wonderful. 5-Star Rating! " -Lynda H. of Santa Monica, CA, Yelp Review, 4/08/2015

"There are lots of great choices but I love the hamburger. The bun is a step up and you can order lots of extras. The bread and dipping sauce is great as well. Not to mention an extensive wine list. Wait staff is friendly and efficient.. You are in a wonderful town and you can sit outside and watch the world go by. 5-Star Rating! " -VIPOpenTable Diner Since 2013, OpenTable review, 4/7/2015

"Delicious delight in central coast wine country! Recently had dinner here, famous for its appearance in the movie "Sideways", but also for its wine collection, which is impressive. However, the food is what we left talking about. The homemade gnocchi was the BEST gnocchi I have ever had - including what one finds in a number of SF Bay Area restaurants! EXCELLENT. Orrechiette with house made sausage was delicious as well. The dining room is very comfortable and well designed. The service was top-notch. Hats off to this little place in charming Los Olivos and wishing it continued success. 5-Star Rating!" -gacr2014 of Mill Valley, California,Trip Advisor Review, 3/27/2015

"It's actually been a while since I came here while on vacation in Solvang, but I still remember it vividly. My girlfriend and I came here looking for vegan-friendly options, and though the menu didn't have many, our waitress and the chef were incredibly accommodating... AND the food was still amazing. It's also just a beautiful, romantic, and fun spot. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. 5-Star Rating! " -Christian S. of Burbank, CA, Yelp Review, 3/21/2015

Ice cream was sensational with the chocolate. Absolutely loved the ambiance. Service top notch. Food was superb. " -‘jeana h.’ of Los Angeles, CA, Yelp Review, 3/13/2015

"The service was top notch. The best in in Los Olivos. We will certaintly return. They have over 500 wines many from the Santa Ynez valley, California. Great selection of wines from out of state and Europe as well. The chicken sausage pasta dish was outstanding with homemade chicken sausage! Atmosphere is busy but still quiet enough to enjoy a good conversation. It's a bit pricy..but worth it. 5-Star Rating! " -‘Tim V” of Santa Clarita, CA, Trip Advisor Review, 3/9/2015

"Perfect Finish to a great day! Went for dinner after a Wine club party. Sat at the bar as we always do. Service was quick and very good. As always great choice of wine by the glass and dinner selection is great. Best place in town for dinner. Good selection for dessert and the coffee is very good. " -‘ronjen817’ of Dublin, California, Trip Advisor Review, 3/8/2015

"Not too many customers on a Thursday, but the food and service were great. I hope the same holds true on the weekend. They have a wine store inside as well as well, A good selection of local wines as well as Napa Valley. I have been there for lunch and it was equally as good. Sometimes I make trip from Santa Maria just buy some wine. " -'Carmine' Open Table Diner, OpenTable review, 3/3/2015

"I've stopped at this place a couple of times, the food is always good and the wine selection is huge. Today I took a friend for her birthday, the waitress was a little slow but maybe because it was busy I had the chicken curry salad and it was delicious. My friend had the pizza good as well, I don't know his name but I think it was the manager he came and brought us our bill when he realized it was my friends birthday he brought a brownie with ice cream and was incredibly nice and courteous! I will be back again and again. THANK YOU! 5-Star Rating!" -Vanessa F. of Los Angeles, CA, Yelp Review, 2/15/2015

"Great lunch stop! We weren't expecting to have lunch in Los Olivos, so I hadnt done any trip advisor research. The wine merchant cafe had a shaded terrace and the menu looked interesting, so we gave it a try and we weren't disappointed. Very friendly and attentive servers and bus boys. I considered the mushroom ravioli and was delighted to find it was home made. In my experience most restaurants buy in there pasta and ravioli. My companions had the cheese plate, it came with delightful fig jam and an interesting trio of cheese. There was a large selection of wine buy the glass, which was ideal for lunch. We ordered the champagne with lavender, which was a delight. All in all I really enjoyed this lunch time stop and would go back and recommend. " -Snowdy7 of Ware, United Kingdom, TripAdvisor.com Review, 2/1/2015

"Never Disappointed! Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe is a mandatory stop for us in Santa Barbara wine country. We are never disappointed. Being from Michigan, eating al fresco in January was a big treat. Los Olivos is definitely worth a visit. 5-Star Rating! " -Macaw of Michigan, TripAdvisor.com Review, 1/31/2015

"Great place! Took my wife out for dinner and wine and thought I'd try this place. Glad I did. So much flavor in the food at the right portion. The wine selection is great and the server paired it perfectly with the meal. Highly recommend for date night. 5-Star Rating! " -OpenTable Diner Since 2015, OpenTable.com Review, 1/29/2015

"Best in Los Olivos! If you've seen the movie Sideways this is where it all happened! A GREAT place to eat so many choices of wines and beer with a price range that is affordable! The food is great with many Favorite and specialties. If you just want an appetizer again you have a great many choices and the price won't bankrupt you. A wonderful wine bar, seating on the patio and inside of course. Don't pass up this venue it's wonderful!!! 5-Star Rating!" -Aprille Wright of Riverbank, California, TripAdvisor.com Review, 1/25/2015

"Great food, service and wine! I haven't been back to the Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe in many years (since "Sideways" ruined trips to the area for quite a while). However, I am so glad we went back on our recent trip. We had the best meal of our trip, excellent service from Karen (a veteran server at the restaurant), and a fabulous wine from the owners' vineyard. Can't wait to return. 5-Star Rating! " -UltimateWines of Redondo Beach, California, TripAdvisor.com Review, 1/25/2015

"They even do takeout well! We were exhausted from a long, fun day of wine tasting on the Foxen Canyon Trail and were staying at the Fess Parker across the street. We had a beautiful room we wanted to enjoy so we decided to get take out from the Cafe. The staff was super courteous. My husband was looking for a particular Pinot to go with our meal. The computer showed they had one bottle in their expansive offering and the staff tore the place apart trying to find it. Ultimately they couldn't find it but made a different affordable recommendation. We went way overboard and ordered the baked brie appetizer, Greek pizza, and lamp shank. All were delicious, full of flavor, and I felt were probably nearly as good to go as they'd have been in the restaurant. Love this place! 5-Star Rating! " -Lizzy Raz, TripAdvisor.com Review, 1/17/2015

"When we're in town, we always make sure to stop.  Last night our family stopped by for dinner.  The food was delicious!  Be sure to try the Parmesan Gnocchi and Ravioli dishes! My husband and I have come by ourselves, as well as with our children.  The ambience is a bit on the upscale side, so coming with a six year old can sometimes have you on edge" -Yvonne O of Claremont, CA, Yelp Review, 1/17/2015

"Still going strong! Excellent food and wine selection with wide variety of local wines available for retail purchase. Have only been here for lunch--we usually order/share mushroom pizza and caesar salad-- both freshly made and great tasting. Plenty for two. Even though this is one of many Sideways landmarks, they delivery a quality dining experience at a reasonable price . 5-Star Rating! " -Pinacoleggo of San Diego, California, TripAdvisor.com Review, 1/6/2015

"This was a cool place just based on the sheer amount of wine available.  The guy from Toretti sent us here with the top secret info that the sommeliers could pair you up with the perfect wine based on your answers to some of their questions...  Armed with this info, we decided to challenge them to find the perfect wine that goes well with "loneliness and Netflix," since everyone always wants something that'll pair with fancy pastas and romantic evenings.  It took a few tries, but he ended up bringing us a bottle of something we could totally envision curling up on the couch with when depressed.  Za-zing!  Mission accomplished!" -Cindy L. of Pasadena, CA, Yelp Review, 1/5/2015

"Amazing. From start to finish. We had a lovely waitress (I think her name was Jeana?) and started with the cheese plate as an appetizer. My fiancé had the New York steak and I had the pappardelle bolognese. We had mentioned that we had just gotten engaged and they brought us a congratulatory flourless chocolate cake after our dinner. So sweet. The wine selection is SUPERB. I had an amazing rosé sparkling wine and my fiancé had an excellent cab to pair with his steak... Great atmosphere too. Just loved it. 5-Star Review! " -‘Ina W. of Woodland Hills, CA, Yelp Review, 1/5/2015

"Red carpet treatment! Lunch, and dinner were excellent! we spent 2 nights in Los Olivos, and we ate 3 of our meals there. I couldn't get enough of their delicious wine, and olives..the salad Nicoise was to die for. We stayed at the Bernat Vineyard cottage, which is located on the owners wine estate, which was so beautiful and serene..I never knew I could feel such peace. There was nothing but quiet..HEAVEN! The owners Sam and Shaundra are such lovely hosts, we were so sad to leave..oh,..back to the cafe..impeccable service, great wine, great menu..and we were treated like royalty, when they found out we were guests at the vineyard, they went over and beyond to make us feel special,..I observed them being just as gracious to all the customers as well can't wait to go back, and rent both cottages for a couples retreat..check it out on vrbo or homeaway.com. 5-Star Rating!" -‘ Kellie_P1983’ of Lake Arrowhead, California, TripAdvisor.com Review, 12/17/2014

Large wine selection to purchase as well. 5-Star Rating!" -‘jms0397’ of Beverly Hills, CA, TripAdvisor.com Review, 12/13/2014

"Great Food and Great Service! We arrived at this lovely spot after spending almost 6 hours stuck in traffic. Needless to say we were somewhat stressed. We were seated at a cozy table next to the fireplace and greeted by an exceedingly helpful and knowedgeable server. Our stress vanished almost immediately as we sipped a delicious Santa Rita Hills pinot recommended by our server. Our night continued to get better and better as the different courses arrived, each one better than the last. A delightful meal and a perfect beginning to 4 great days in Los Olivos. 5-Star Rating!" -Rich G of San Diego, CA, TripAdvisor.com Review, 12/01/2014

"Celebrated my birthday, it was incredibly busy yet the service was excellent. The only negative was the incredibly pretentious 30 something's on one side and the loud mouthed 70 year old on the other. The food was fantastic! The waiter gave us excellent advice on the best wine tasting in town and out. He was spot on! Great spot and in fact we are thinking about celebrating my husband's 50th there with friends! 5-Star Rating. " -Amy H. of Thousand Oaks, CA, Yelp Review, 11/29/2014

"A lucky find for a lovely Sunday breakfast in gorgeous surroundings! We were so happy to come upon this restaurant on a recent drive from Santa Barbara to Paso Robles. It was in such a lovely setting, the ambience was delightful and the service was excellent. I wish we could go again and taste the dinner or lunch menu as I have read the reviews and they sound amazing. We just had eggs and potatoes and ham and cafe lattes but it was very nice. Lovely lovely town - do drop in. 5-Star Rating. " -‘jean-s’ of North Yorkshire, England, TripAdvisor.com Review, 11/26/2014

"Very friendly nice restaurant. We just had dinner there last night for my birthday celebration. The restaurant is beautiful. The food was amazing. Our party of seven had a great time. The salmon chowder was fantastic. The wine list has low to high priced selections. The dessert Scream was a great way to end the meal. The endless bottles of cold water was a hit after a full day of wine tasting to rehydrate." -‘Sunnydaysinca’ of San Marino, California, TripAdvisor.com Review, 11/17/2014

"Lovely little gem! We stumbled upon this little gem on our weekend get away to Santa Barbara. It was a 35 minute drive from SB through beautiful scenery... a fun drive with a pleasant ending. We order wine flights and the Artisan Cheese Plate since we were planning another adventure for later. The location is beautiful. There is a romantic, outdoor patio and an indoor upbeat restaurant and bar. It is very open and airy, light and energetic. The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about their wines and foods. The wine flight was superb... so good we purchased two bottles to take home from our adventure. We live just north of L.A. and can't wait to just drive up on a Saturday late afternoon with friends... beautiful drive, gorgeous location and superb food and wine. 5-Star Rating! The food turned out to be very good, sefrved in large proportions by an excellent wait staff. " -Thefriedlands of  Scottsdale, Arizona, OpenTable Review, 10/27/2014

"Outstanding! Okay, my wife loves wine tasting so off we went to Solvang for a couple of days...  She had eaten at the Wine Merchant Café on her last visit in June and remembered they had TV at the bar, so we went to watch the Giants do there thing against St. Louis and settled in at the bar for dinner. All I can say is the service and the staff were exceptional... We ate there both nights we were in Solvang and it was well worth the short drive to get there.   5-Star Rating! " -Charlie W. of Scotts Valley, CA, Yelp Review, 10/17/2014

"My wife and I went up to Los Olivos for some R&R.  Stayed across the street from the cafe, and decided to give it a try for lunch.  OMG!!!  This place is amazing!  I had the gnocchi, and it was the best I have ever had.  And the server, Robin was great, super friendly and very attentive.  My wife had a salad with a lot of olives, her favorite, and she loved it. 5-Star Rating! "Even if we had an enormous choice of eateries in Los Olivos-which there isn't -this would be our number 1 place every time. For the second year in a row, and with more nights to visit, we found Los OLivos Cafe to be fabulous .Whether sitting at the bar, glass of beautiful wine in hand, or sitting in the main restaurant the menu is extensive and the food is delicious. "Great atmosphere & a fantastic wine list! Restaurant is in a beautiful small town, We are greeted with smiles from the staff & felt like we were regular customers. Service was faultless, the children had pizza, we all had pasta which was really great. A huge wine list (as expected!) we bought a few bottles to bring home. "Best Restaurant in Wine Country! This was our 3rd time here! We always have enjoyed a great meal, excellent service and of course, outstanding wine! " -Cetts, VIP Reviewer, OpenTable Review, Dined on 9/21/2014

"The Wine List Is Impressive But The Food Is As Good! We had the potato soup special and it was sublime. A chef told me once judge a restaurant by its soup. If it is made with care you can be assured the rest of the meal will have the same care. That proved to be true here. While we were in a hamburger mood, the quality of the beef with a great white chedder with a wonderful smoked bacon elevated the meal to a higher level. The desert of a flourless chocolate cake with house made vanilla ice cream covered with house made carmel syrup must be tried. Go for the surberb wine list but please don't forget to try the excellent menu. " -Michael O. of Huntington Beach, California, TripAdvisor.com Review, 9/19/2014

"Casual classy place in downtown Los Olivos - perfect place to come with a date or a nicer dinner for a group.  First, the wine... the waiter really hit it on the money when I asked for a dry, buttery, white wine  The 2012 LaFond Chardonnay was delicious! For entrees we got the mushroom ravioli and the short rib.  Both were tasty and delicious!  Ended the meal with the smores dessert and Cafe Scream (both include flourless chocolate cake).  Delicious option for dinner in the area- highly recommend! " -Helen T. of San Mateo, CA, Yelp Review, 8/31/2014

We are fortunate to live locally, and have the utmost respect for the wine selection and variety of foodie friendly fare!! I would highly recommend this restaurant next time you make a trip to the Santa Ynez Valley. Cozy and intimate, yet has that "neighborhood gem" feel. I highly recommend the Los Olivos Wine Merchant Cafe. " -Marcia Guthrie R. of Pismo Beach, CA, Yelp Review, 7/24/2014

"This place knocked it out of the park for us during our visit this Tuesday afternoon about 3 pm. Excellent local wine selections; menu delightful (chicken curry salad - best I have had); server, Kyle, was superb with nice help in making our selections, and helping us understand the tasting process. We will go back, get a seat at the tasting bar, and have at it soon. 5-Star Rating! " -Travelartgolf of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, TripAdvisor Review, 7/19/2014

"One of the best in the Solvang area! I have eaten at quite a few restaurants in the Solvang area and this is my favorite. (Just across the street is Petro's which is also excellent.) The service is excellent. I had sausages made from Boar's meat. My date ate one of the specials (a Salmon dish). Both were excellent. The wine list is local, and very good. The service was great, very attentive, and always there when you needed them. BTW, if you on a "Sideways" tour, this is the place to eat. " -Leo R. of Campbell, CA, Trip Advisor Review, 7/1/2014

"Amazing dinner! Amazing food and service. We had the cheese plate appetizer, mushroom ravioli, chicken sausage and pasta and the braised lamb shanks. We were all impressed with the quality of our dinners. The wine list is extensive. My husband chose a wine flight which was 3 glasses and a healthy pour of each. Split dessert and the tiramisu was super. Definitely will return. " -OpenTable Diner Since 2011, Open Table Review, 6/24/2014

"6 stars for Matt our bartender/server and 4 stars for the food and ambiance equals 5 stars...my wife and I dropped in here on Sunday at lunch, and rather than wait the 5 minutes for an inside table for 1 hour for the outside variety, decided to sit at the bar and eat there....best choice of the day.  There we meet Matt.  Quick with the pour and knowledgeable about the food recommendations, but more impressively, he is the Oracle of Wine.  Born and raised locally, when asked, "what should we do" he gave us the insiders road map for the day. "Phenomenal in all ways!! This is a fantastic cafe with exceptional food, outstanding service and great wine. Do not miss this when you go to " -Phlovesfood, OpenTable Reviewer, 6/19/2014

"Great Wines and Very Good Food in Ranch Country! We were a fairly large group of of friends and, were politely greeted and were shown a table for 8 near the front window. Los Olivos is a charming rural town in San Ynez. There are wide streets and plenty of parking. The restaurant is very nice inside with plenty of people but not noisy. We began with some shared appetizers for the table which included some roasted vegetables, some hummus dips and breadIt was no surprise that the wine list was intelligent and very extensive. Dinner was very good and everyone had a great time. We are here for a week and will surely return. " -love2skiLosAngeles of Los Angeles, CA, TripAdvisor.com Review, 6/7/2014

"I had been wanting to come here since "Sideways" came out ten years ago, and planned this wine vacation months ago. Dining at Los Olivos was to be the centerpiece of the trip. The shop is lovely and I enjoyed perusing the wall of interesting wines and other merchandise. Then I was seated in the dining room for lunch, and allowed to select my own table (always a nice courtesy). There was addictively good bread and oil served beforehand. For my main I had the portobello mushroom burger with goat cheese and roasted peppers, which was one of the best things I've ever had (and I'm not even vegetarian). The fries it came with were to die for. The portions were very generous. I had been planning to have one of their signature desserts, maybe the chocolate scream, but could not have eaten another thing. " -shell202020 of Plainview, NY, TripAdvisor.com Review, 5/27/2014

"Just one night in this town, and we picked a great place to have dinner. When four friends from our Inn joined us unexpectedly for dinner, the hostess was very nice about relocating us to another table to accommodate all six of us. Great wine menu, and a wonderful selection of wines to buy on the way out - a whole wall of choices! Orecchiette was very good as was the mushroom ravioli. Nice salads, too. " -gr8passage of New England, TripAdvisor.com Review, 5/16/2014

"Our frends told us not to miss The Wine Merchant for dinner.  We walked right in and were seated immediately by a cheerful hostess.  Our waitress was very attentive. Wine was good. Our out door patio seating right in the middle of ttown.  The tables were marble/granite topped without a placemat or tablecloth. So pretty casual dining We ordered a pre-fixe menu with appetizer, main and dessert. our salads to start were lovely - light and a bit different;  Our main course was Short Ribs; The prep was ordinary and just average. Our dessert was very good too. " -Kathy R. of Woodland Hills, CA, Yelp Review, 5/12/2014

"Perfect Romantic Dinner! I've know this place from the Sideways movie, and had the chance to visit the wine country with my wife. The service was great, they were able to give perfect advice on the food, specially because we are both vegetarians. My wife is not much into wine but the waitress could find a white that would fit for her, and found a perfect red from Curtis that was a perfect match with my ravioli. Dessert was GREAT. Definitely a very calm nice place to a couples dinner. " -Krishnarupa, OpenTable.com Review, 5/6/2014

"Lovely restaurant in the middle of a small town.  I never expected this place to be surprisingly upscale.  Great service, nice ambiance and excellent menu & wine selection. Try the variety of olives; roasted garlic and mix vegetable. And don't miss the baked brie. I will definitely come back for more. See for yourself!!! "Very good dinner! All three courses were equally good. Ordered beets and burrata (sp) for appetizer. Plenty for two. Also split a greek salad. Wife had duck duo for main course and loved it. Both duck and fava bean rice were excellent. I ordered a pizza (cheese, mushroom, and arugula) which was very nice. Great service! Very attentive without being in the way. " -Ninerdiner, OpenTable.com Review, 4/25/2014

"Great lunch! Great spot in the middle of town. I had the skirt steak cobb salad, it was huge and fantastic. My partner had the mushroom ravioli which was excellent. I had a bit of lunch envy. We started with the olives and they were amazing. " -matts2869 of Kensington, California, TripAdvisor.com Review, 4/19/2014

"Excellent food! Second visit. I love this place. I ordered the special, garlic fettucine, and it was tasty! The bread service with the olive oil is the best! On a side note, if you're into aromatherapy, pick up some of The Grapeseed Company Lavender Infused Grapeseed Oil. It's a wonderful moisturizer for skin or a massage. " -sammyzcat of Oklahoma City, OK, TripAdvisor.com Review, 4/17/2014

"My "go-to" restaurant when I'm in this area!Thank goodness for Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe. A place where you can have a wonderful lunch before wine-tasting or a nice dinner in the evening. However, some people do dress, but frankly, I feel welcomed in my jeans. The food is always fresh and the specials are always worth checking out. This time I had the beet and goat cheese salad along with the roasted butternut squash soup. My husband had the tuna burger. The beet salad was flavorful, well prepared and beautiful to look at. Roasting the butternut squash gave the soup a depth of flavor that puts this soup ahead of similar soups. The tuna burger was fresh, tasty and everything my husband could have wishes. "Great service, food is exceptional! 5-Star Rating! " -Open Table Diner Since 2014, OpenTable.com Review, 4/8/2014

"What a gem. Perfect place to eat between tastings.  Must must MUST have the house olive oil dip ... It's like crack. I had the house made mushroom ravioli which is to die for and enough to share, my fella had the bacon/parm pasta. We. Were. Hungry! Can't wait to go back. " -Nichole H of Los Angeles, CA, Yelp Review, 4/2/2014

"Lives Up to It’s Name! I've stopped at this place a couple of times, the food is always good and the wine selection is huge. THANK YOU!  5-Star Rating! " -‘casillas623’ of  Santa Monica, California,Trip Advisor Review, 3/25/2014

"Don’t miss this place! It is a must stop for anyone traveling within the Santa Barbara County or up/down California. The food is consistently great; good service; reasonable prices, daily specials, and great selection of wine by the glass. Husband dreams of short ribs on the bed of mashed potato and roasted veggies. I can point at anything on the menu, in the dark, and totally love it. Just wish it was not a 90 minute drive from home so that we could dine there more often. 5-Star Rating! " -Anna-Roz of Los Angeles, California,Trip Advisor Review, 3/24/2014

"Absolutely Fantastic! Oh wow this place was off the chain. Food incredible. The butternut squash caprese was the most delicious thing ive ever tasted. Had the baked brie and the lamb shank and the chicken. All perfectly cooked. Wine was fantastic. And really cool place to take a bottle home as well. Even though its also a restaurant prices are pretty fair. And our waitress was awesome. Very patient and super helpful. Recommend! 5-Star Rating! " -‘andre’  Open Table Diner, OpenTable.com Review, 3/22/2014

"We went here for a friend's birthday and loved the food and atmosphere. We actually sat at the bar because my friend's favorite server was starting to work as a bartender. The food is fantastic and the wine selection is obviously really impressive. Expect to pay quite a bit because the menu isn't cheap, but you shouldn't leave disappointed. 5-Star Rating! " -Jenny D of Lompoc, CA, Yelp Review, 3/21/2014

"Fantasy Getavway! I've been to this restaurant twice in the past couple of weeks for a day trip to the wine country and then an evening of dinner and a show. Both occasions the food was fantastic, servers were friendly and knowledgeable and the atmosphere was very relaxed. If you ever get the chance to try the chef's special, Garlic Trotulle - it's amazing!! " -Open Table Diner since 2013, OpenTable.com Review, 3/21/2014

"Enjoyed Weekend Breakfast! We have had a nice lunch here in the past, and were surprised that they are now serving breakfast on the weekend. The menu was limited, but good. Loved the french toast souffle with the pecan butter. We also had the omelet, which was good, but a little dry, but still good. It is nice to have this other option for breakfast in the area. " -CucamongaGirl of Inland Empire, California,Trip Advisor Review, 3/17/2014

"Awesome food, wine and atmosphere! Tip #1: if you are staying in Solvang drive the 5 miles to Los Olivos and enjoy a great meal and wine. We go here every year as part of our annual trek to do the Solvang Century bike ride and this place is always the highlight of our trip. Tip #2: sit at the counter where Cameron - their advanced sommelier - may wait on you and steer you to a great wine. You know Cameron is a pro because he does not steer you to the most expensive wine but to the wine you will enjoy the most with your tastes and your meal. Tip #3: get there before 5pm and you can try a custom flight of 5 of their wines - and with Cameron as your guide it's a great experience too. " -William F. of San Francisco, California,Trip Advisor Review, 3/10/2014

"Hidden gem in wine country! I love this places! We found it by accident about 15 years ago & love, love, love it! Had a field trip to Sacramento with my sons 4th grade class & decided to drive just so I could stop in Los Olivos to eat here! The house made ravioli's are excellent! If you get a chance to eat here, I would recommend it! Thanks for another wonderful dining experience! " -‘Foodie4ever’ Open Table Diner since 2013, OpenTable.com Review, 3/08/2014

"Saturday night, packed restaurant, group of 10 with reservation. We had a short wait for table set-up, then seated with great service for our group. Group consensus that salads were average, fish was good, pastas had mixed reviews due to sauces heavier with salt than preferences, pizzas great, nice by the glass wine selections for the varied tastes of our group. "Restaurant week: Out of all the restaurants to choose from I chose this one after I had stopped in to purchase a hard to find wine from the area. There was just a wonderful feeling to the place. You can eat at the bar ( good got a single diner ) inside & out on the patio. The night we dined we chose the patio...perfect!! Great service , food, and weather and of course the wine!! Will definitely return. 5-Star Rating!." -'kmend' Open Table Diner, OpenTable review, 1/25/2014

"Really good dinner. Nice retail wine list (so retail price + $20 corkage) compliments a tasty and healthy menu. They let me taste quite a bit before choosing a final wine choice. Niciose salad was a rough chop but really keenly cooked tuna and herbaceous dressing made for a perfect opener. The short rib was cooked perfectly (that said, if you mess up a long roast anything, then sheesh!). Prices are good." -Ted K. of Boulder, CO, Yelp Review, 1/16/2014

"This restaurant has a lovely atmosphere: one whole wall is filled with wine bottles, the other with mirrors. The service at our recent dinner was impeccable. Our waitress was charming. My husband loved his pizza. I unfortunately didn't care for my spaghetti bolognese. It was a Huge portion covered and laces with cheese and very spicy. I ate about 1/3 of it. When I mentioned that it was not up to snuff our waitress took it off the bill. I was embarrasses but she said she had to do it if I was satisfied. Now that was great service. And this is why we will be back to this place again." -'harrodsfan' of Newport Beach CA, Trip Advisor Review, 1/11/2014

"My favorite Valley restaurant! I've been visiting Los Olivos Cafe since it first opened. It's still my favorite whether I'm there with my friends, family, or husband - ambiance is great, portions are huge (the arancini appetizer, then lamb, and the s'mores for dessert are my favorite picks). Wine selection is vast and the staff are brilliant, always so friendly and helpful. 5-Star Rating!" -'CocotheNomad' of London, England, United Kingdom Trip Advisor Reviewer, 1/10/2014

"Very cyclist friendly. We got stranded here on our bikes trying to get to Solvang before dark. We were dressed in cycling clothes, waiting for our husbands to get us and our bikes. The waiter seated us immediately and treated us as if we were dressed to the nines, recommended a lovely Pinot Noir and the best cheese plate I've ever eaten. He couldn't have been more accommodating, and the staff at the door was perfectly happy to let me trample through the bar in bike garb to use the restroom. What a classy place! 5-Star Rating!" -Clare D.of San Francisco, CA, Yelp Review, 12/31/2013

"Lunch in Los Olivos, Then More Wine Tasting!Los Olivos Cafe is a wonderful place to have lunch during a day of wine tasting in the town. The big U-shaped bar takes up most of the room but there are tables inside and out. Service is casual, friendly and helpful. The menu is simple but the food is impeccably prepared with quality ingredients! But importantly, it's all about the wine. A superb listing of local wines with lots by the glass, and a variety of wine flights. One wall has local wines for sale. Tasting in Los Olivos is a great way to sped a day, and lunch here enhances the experience.5-Star Rating!" -David W of Sausalito, California, Trip Advisor Review, 12/29/13

"This is literally the BEST place for a nice dinner out in the whole Santa Ynez Valley! Even when they're busy on a Saturday night in the summertime or fall, the quality of food is ALWAYS excellent! When my friends and family come to visit me from out of town, I always bring them here to impress them (which they always are). My suggestion is the Sideways Special: dumb movie, awesome dinner value! Can't beat a glass of pretty decent wine, soup or salad, entree, and Cafe Scream for $35! That price is right up my alley! This will continue to be my go-to restaurant for any and all occasions, or just because! 5-Star Rating! :)" -Victoria G. of Santa Barbara, CA, Yelp Review, 12/28/2013

"First visit: Our small company drove over from Santa Barbara for our annual Christmas lunch. Everyone enjoyed their meal, but mine was to die for . . . the ravioli. I also had a small Caesar salad which was fine, as was the tiramisu, but the Café Scream (warm flourless chocolate cake, vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce) was on par with the ravioli. I look forward to returning. However it will be hard to be adventurous, how I could pass up another chance at the ravioli and Scream cake? 5-Star Rating." -CAGayeO of Santa Barbara, CA, Senior TripAdvisor Reviewer, 12/15/2013

"Classy California Wine Country Cuisine! This is by far the most authentic Californiaesque cuisine in the Los Olivos wine region that we have found. It was featured in the likewise California culture statement film "Sideways." It is a great way to end your day after the Foxen Canyon self-hosted wine tour. The restaurant offers its own selection of wine tasting flights that are a great accompaniment to California-Tuscany style foods such as butternut squash ans spinach gnoci, nine types of marinated olives, Orecchiette chicken sausage, Pappardelle Bolognese San Luis natural beef, and Morro Bay black cod. The staff are happy, helpful and non-overbearing. There is a full bar in case you forgot to make reservations which is highly advised. 5-Star Review" -'zippideedoodle' of Paris France, Trip Advisor Review, 12/1/2013

"We had a truly lovely experience. We had just finished an amazing horseback riding adventure in Santa Ynez Estella winery and were looking for a quick but healthy bite to eat. Weather was perfect on an early December afternoon. We sat on the porch and were even allowed to have the dog with us as long as she behaved. The beets and burata salad was very good as was the pizza. There is a great selection of wine. Would definitely return." -Sharon S., San Jose, CA, Yelp Review, 12/1/2013

"Great food and atmosphere. Live music and a lot of wines to choose from. Large range of options for food.. I recommend the steak Cobb and the sandwiches. The bread and tapenade that comes to the table is also delicious! Great place to stop before you hit the vineyards for some wine tasting. Will be back." -Katherine G.., Scottsdale, AZ, Yelp Review, 11/30/2013

"Had a really good dinner here pre thanksgiving. I had the short rib which was excellent and my wife had the cod which was very good. Salad was very good as was the pumpkin brûlée. The hostess was a bit spacey and made us wait for our reservation table even though there were lots of tables open." -'Shoopster' Open Table Diner, OpenTable.com Review, 11/16/2013

"Highly recommend as this was our second visit. Terrific atmosphere in the heart of the Santa Barbara Wine Country. In the heart of Los Olivios, with deep wine selection, large bar area that serves lunch, and outdoor seating. We split the BbQ on Focaccia with slaw and it was fabulous. Followed other repos with the Vegetables and Olive Oil and you will not be disappointed. Definitely in the rotation. 5-star Rating!" -Howie S., Redlands, CA, Yelp Review, 11/25/2013

"Being a wine Merchant and café, means lot of wine racked up in the shopping area which looks, good, This place is really a fine but some what casual restaurant. the food is innovative well presented and tasty. Naturally they were also helpful with the wine selections. 5-Star-Rating!" -Goletagone of Goleta, TripAdvisor Review, 11-11-2013

"In the evening, it doesn't feel like a cafe at all, it felt like a pretty nice restaurant. I liked the ambiance. We ordered the roasted local vegetables to feel semi-healthy, alba pizza (mushroom trio), and the short ribs. All three items were really good. And the thing is, even the pizza re-heated the following day was really delicious. Just thinking about it makes me want to go back. Service was good and the food was good. I definitely recommend this restaurant! 5-Star-Rating" -Giao T. of Temple City, CA, Yelp Review, 11/09/2013

I tried the home-made spiral pasta special with spinach and mushrooms in a creamy parmesean/corn sauce. It was simply one of the very best pasta dishes I've ever had anywhere, including Italy!" -Neil D of Camarillo, California, Trip Advisor Review, 10/30/2013

It features really nice indoor and outdoor seating, and a big bar that is convenient to dine at if you are by yourself, or the rest of the place is full. A nice menu - good pastas - and a huge wine list featuring local wines. There is also a big private room in the back for functions, and a big wine store." -Fish224 of Portland, Oregon, Trip Advisor, 10/27/2013

"A favorite in Los Olivos! Whenever I have out of town friends visit I try to make time to visit Los Olivos. A favorite stop in Los Olivos Wine Merchant and Cafe. Their menu will please even the pickiest palettes. The service is friendly and atmosphere is welcoming. You will see all types of people dining or having a glass of wine or beer there. Last time I was there, there was a celebrity with her husband having lunch at the counter next to a couple of local cowboys. It's a perfect way to describe this little town, classy but unpretentious. 5-Star-Rating!" -Mary W of Santa Barbara, California, TripAdvisor Review, 10/22/2013

"Excellence in multiple aspects! Wine list is superb and will take you several minutes to review. The food is designed to complement all kinds of wine, yet we opted for draught beer because we were burnt out on wine from all of our tastings during the day. The gnocchi was outstanding, as was the affogato for dessert. The Niçoise salad is healthy and quite good, and the short Rib was cooked to perfection, although I thought it could use a more flavorful reduction to heighten the flavor of the meat. Service was 5 star all around. Would highly recommend this spot for family or friends, and you could even come solo and have a tasting at the bar while you enjoy your meal. They put a flat screen in a corner of the room that doesn't bother diners, so you won't have to miss you favorite baseball game or Monday night football. 5-Star-Rating!" -MatthewLeitner of San Diego, TripAdvisor Review, 10/20/2013

"We only had dessert and wine here but we were greatly satisfied. The ricotta and berry creme brulee was delicious and the mango sorbet was rich and abundant. We asked the bartender to serve us our choice of wine - Prosecco Zonin - in front of us so we could look at the bottle and she kindly complied. The decaf espresso we ordered was served in the traditional Italian small cup and tasted great. We will be going back to try the other menu items." -Carl J. of Lompoc, CA, Yelp Review, 10/19/2013

"Thank goodness for Yelp! We were staying in Solvang and wanted to grab some lunch at Succulent, but they were closed on Tuesday. So we decided to drive to Los Olivos and yelped for a nice place for lunch. And we found one! When we walked in we found that they had an Advanced Sommelier, what a surprise! My cousin is a Certified Somm so we were chatting with him before our lunch to pick out the wines we were going to with our lunch. He recommended a really nice Local Chardonnay (Liquid Farm) and a good local Grenache (A Touch of Grace) too! The Somm introduced us to the winemaker of the Grenache who had been sitting right behind us!!! The Food and Wine were excellent! We started with the Beets and Burrata and the Grilled Flatbread with Hummus, Tapenade and Muffaleta (all housemade!) The appetizers were delicious and some of the best burrata I've had! 5-Star-Rating!" -Scott T.of Orange County, CA, Yelp Review, 10/8/2013

They have an incredible wine list that happens to be ranked in the top 50 wine lists in the United States. With soothing jazz and low lighting, the atmosphere is wonderful and the staff is incredibly knowledgable and friendly. The food and wine are exquisite. "Relaxing Tasty Lunch! We stopped in for lunch during the middle of the week for a relaxing quiet meal. The restaurant has an entire wall covered with bottles of wine for purchase and, as expected, the wine list was excellent. By the way, there is a large wine bar centrally located in the restaurant. I enjoyed a plate of small porcini ravioli with shaved truffle. My wife had the strawberry and fig salad. I had a glass of wine, recommended by our knowledgeable server. We look forward to our next meal at the Wine Merchant & Cafe! 5-Star Rating!" -'Trip99' of Los Angeles, CA, Trip Advisor Review, 9/21/2013

"Always excellent and a lovely place to eat! We had a very well prepared casual late lunch. We shared a delicious salad with fresh raspberry vinaigrette to start. My husband had oriechette with chicken sausage, he like it very much and the portion was to his delight. I had grilled salmon with pesto, which was also, well prepared. The service was great. The vibe casually elegant in true California style. The wine merchant side was filled with local wines and beers. Just a very good experience and meal. Here you can enjoy tasting a huge variety of wines and they will also serve food from the cafe menu. The pasta specials, the pizza and the salads have been exceptional! The service is excellent and to top it all, they have a large selection of wines from a variety of wineries available to purchase. 5-Star Rating!" -''lyriccat,' of San Diego, California, Trip Advisor Review, 9/8/2013

"Very enjoyable! We always have a meal here when in the area. The Alba Pizza is my favorite pizza ever....this restaurant has a nice casual atmosphere, whether eating outside on the front patio, in the restaurant, or at the bar. The bar staff are very knowledgeable about the wines offered and are very friendly. Despite the many winery's in the area for tastings, we always have a flight here as well since they offer good local wines from emerging boutique winery's that are very good. I would highly recommend having a meal or stopping by in the afternoon to take a relaxing break from wine tasting." -'casekobe' of Boca Raton, Florida, Trip Advisor Review, 9/2/2013

"Returned after one of our best meals a few years ago, and this time, it was just as pleasurable to be at this resto. The service is great, the wines are obviously excellent, and the food is strong. I loved the grenache they recommended; it's very similar to my favorite Sardinian cannonau (same grape). Don't miss this place if you're in the Santa Ynez valley -- it's actually just as good as movies make it out to be.5-Star Rating" -Lisa K. of Los Angeles, CA,, Yelp Review, 8/26/2013

All that (plus two cups of coffee)...5-Star Rating!" -Nazanin M of Los Angeles, California, Trip Advisor, 8/19/2013

"Ate there on Saturday after logging approximately 250 miles of extreme back roads to get there.(Motorcycle).The service was as near perfect as it gets. The salad and Alba pizza was amazing. The waitress was on it like you were at a Thomas Keller Six star. The red wine and later the service obtaining a rare beer was exceptional.Hats off to this crew who know how to run an upscale-healthy restaurant! All this dressed in offload motorcycle gear.Very nice indeed. 5-Star Rating!" -Pete T. of Canyon Country, CA, Yelp Review, 8/19/2013

"Perfect in every way! We were staying in Santa Barbara & friends had suggested this restaurant for dinner. We made reservations without knowing that this is 30-45 minute drive from Santa Barbara. I called to let the restaurant know that we were going to be late because of the drive & they held our table until we arrived. The drive over was through beautiful ranches & scenery! The little town of Los Olivos was so pretty & quaint & the restaurant was amazing in every way. We sat outside on the front porch & enjoyed a wonderful meal in a beautiful setting. 5-Star Rating!" -Customer Avatar 'Southwestdiner', OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Review, 8/17/2013

All of the tapas and meals are amazing. The hummus and tapenade, flatbread, and olives are a great way to start any meal. After trying several restaurants in the area, this will always be my favorite. "Gorgeous day, great meal!`Los Olivos is a pretty little town in the middle of nowhere. We arrived at this cafe on a picture-perfect day--cool and sunny. We didn't have reservations, but were seated on the patio under the wisteria arbor immediately. Our server was super-nice and took time recommending wine to us without being pretentious. We had a "flight" of three local wines. 5-Star Rating!" -swhwriter of Morristown, New Jersey, Trip Advisor, 8/11/2013

"Good restaurant, great regional wines! The terrace is great for dinner. The local wine selection is outstanding" -JoseDW of Mexico City, Mexico, Trip Advisor Review, 8/1/2013

"I have been wanting to try this place for a while after seeing some of their fabulous desserts online on facebook. So when we were in the area, we decided to stop by and have dinner. And I am super glad we did. The service is really great. The folks are real nice and attentive. The bread they serve while you are waiting for your meal is A+. We split a salad (Raspberry Pecan) which was great. And then I had the Orecchiette which is one of the best pasta dishes I have had in a long time. That is saying a lot since I love me some Italian food. Then came the dessert. What I've been waiting for! And from my current profile picture on here, you can see how much I was looking forward to it! The smores dessert was really really good. Met all of my expectations and more. I definitely recommend leaving room for it. Oh and I recommend reservations. We didn't think we would need one on a Sunday night but there was a 30 min wait or so for 2 people. It was a pretty long wait. But other than that they get a A+." -Christopher D. of San Francisco, CA, Yelp Review, 7/27/2013

"The Los Olivos cafe continues to be an excellent experience. Came back after three years and the food and service are as excellent as before and the wine list an absolute dream. Cannot recommend highly enough.5-Star Rating!" -Avataran, Open Table Dinerr,OpenTable.com Review, 7/23/2013

"Every time we visit the wine country, we have to eat at Los Olivos Cafe! Their salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing was delicious! The cheese plate is great for sharing, while the black cod was really good it's a little salty on the other side but it is still very good! Will definitely come back to this place! 5-Star Rating!" -Open Table Diner, OpenTable.com Review, 7/22/2013

"As a local resident who lives within walking distance of the Cafe, I want to give them kudos for consistently good food [a miss every once in awhile], friendly help and welcoming atmosphere. Whether I am popping in to pick up a pizza in my pj's, grabbing a bottle of wine for a friend's birthday, doing work on my laptop on the counter at lunch or entertaining friends who just arrived after a long drive, the Cafe is our spot. Although there are many other great restaurants in the Santa Ynez Valley, the cafe manages to be a local hangout, an easy place to grab a bite AND serve food that meets the caliber one expects in a late weekend dining experience. We also love the fact that they change their menu and offer ingredients that are locally sourced. BUT they are nice enough to prepare Chicken Marsala 'the old way' for my husband as well. Sign of a real kitchen! Thanks for standing by us in Los Olivos! 5-Star Rating!" -'pucksharedtable' of Santa Barbara, California, Trip Advisor Review, 7/21/2013

"A Must Stop! While driving around and visiting a couple wineries, it was time to eat. I went on Trip Advisor and found this restaurant so we tried it! What a pleasant surprise to find the wonderful food at this cafe and wine shop! They make the best tasting bread-dipping olive oil with herbs I have ever had and they sell it there too! The food you receive is the type you would expect in a boutique restaurant. They also have a nice supply of wines for sale in the shop." -Pamela C. of Atlanta, Georgia, TripAdvisor.com Senior Contributor, 7/20/2013

"Always a fun place! I always go here when in town doing our "Sideways" thing. You can't go wrong with the wine selection or food. The service is top notch and everyone has a smile. I only wish they had more of a steak selection." -SidewaysRuss, Open Table Diner, OpenTable.com Review, 7/20/2013

"California cuisine at its best!We had friendly, attentive service and enjoyed everything we ordered. Portions were hearty. We had the burger, Tuscan chicken, mushroom ravioli and pappardelle Bolognese. Would order any of these again. Same for the berry rhubarb crisp and affogato. Charming little stop in CA wine country.5-Star Rating!" -TTBirdSanDiego_CA of San Diego, California, Trip Advisor Review, 7/14/2013

"We had a wonderful time. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had a certificate for a free wine tasting but arrived after 5 pm, which is generally when the tastings end. They allowed us to have our tasting at our table, which was very nice of them. We tasted the Bernat wines and liked them all. I had the salmon, which was served with these ricotta pot-stickers that were to die for. My sister had the Parmesan gnocchi, which she said were the best she's ever had. The waiter was very friendly (but not overly) and attentive. It was a wonderful night out and I highly recommend. 5-Star Rating!" -Stressgirl70, Open Table Diner, 7/13/2013

"Ask for Karen! Some people poo poo this place because of its Sideways movie fame. Don't listen to them, we had a wonderful meal here. Black Cod was yummy and Salmon was amazing. Their bacon is to die for. Karen was a perfect server, she's been there for 17 years and knows a lot about the wine country. Definitely ask for her." -Open Table Diner, OpenTable.com Review, 7/8/2013

"Yummy! A friend recommended this restaurant, so I stopped by on a Sunday for lunch. I love lamb shank and read reviews of how tender it is here and could not wait to try it. Then I was disappointed to find out lamb shank is only on the dinner menu. The lunch menu is also fairly limited. However, everything we got was so yummy! We got the Brie, buttermilk wings, cream of cauliflower soup, brisket sandwich, and flour less chocolate cake ala mode. The servers worked as a team well and were extremely attentive. I cannot wait to come back! There is also a huge selection of wine if that's what you like. This restaurant is surrounded by many places that offer wine tasting. 5-Star Rating." -Matthew J of Buena Park, California, Trip Advisor Review, 6/25.2013

"What can I say -- awesome for lunch -- best Reuben Sandwich I've had in a long time, along with wine and cheese. Others had salads and were just as pleased. Kid friendly too. "Great lunch spot! We had a lite lunch here while in the town to try some wine tastings. Shared the cheese plate and beets and buratta salad. Cheese plate was great, not skimpy at all like some can be. Salad was interesting and different. Wine flight of Bernat wines was a good deal. Fairly easy to get in and easy parking right out front. It would be nice if they would do the tasting flights throughout the restaurant and not just at the bar (we were seated about three feet away). Interesting place to shop for wines as well, a lot looked very good!" -RKAustin of Austin, Texas, Trip Advisor Review, 6/9/2013

"Karen & crew were very helpful & kind. Really enjoyed our yearly meal here. Worth waiting for." -Sheri A. of Los Angeles, California, Restaurant Customer Feedback Card, 6/8/2013

"Great dining in wine country! This restaurant certainly lives up to its billing - a creative menu and an unbelievable wine list. It's not often that a wine list needs a table of contents, but this one spans 27 pages and includes some 700 wine choices. We had gotten used to paired wine dinners during our week of wine touring, and were able to create our own at Los Olivos from their extensive offering of wines by the glass. We had two different appetizers and two main courses (we always switch half-way through to expand our dining experience even further), and with the expert counsel of our server re able to select four different wines - 2 whites and 2 reds - that complemented each dish perfectly. All in all, a great evening! 5-Star Rating!" -OpenTable Reviewer, OpenTable.com online review, 6/9/2013

"LOVELY Romantic dining experience! We loved the relaxed, friendly, warm feel of this place. The outside patio was beautiful, comfortably set, wisteria and other plantings offering a cozy and organic environment. The entire staff were very friendly and efficient. There were more than enough choices of food to serve a variety of tastes and diets. The wine list is massive and could be overwhelming , but our waitress Allison was SPOT-ON for suggestion when we described what we prefer, and we were served a very generous pouring. We ate the Salad Nicoise, substituting with fresh grilled salmon upon request, and the Short Rib dinner, which was a work of art and delicious! Allison's dessert recommendation of ice cream with caramel and expresso was perfecto! We'll be back! 5-Star Rating!" -OpenTable Reviewer, OpenTable.com online review, 6/9/2013

"I've gotta say, we've been going here on an annual basis for about 6 years running, and this has always been one of our favorite restaurants. On this last trip, however, we noticed the menu has gotten a lot more limited. We ordered the short ribs and salmon, and both were just fine. There just seemed to be a lack of creativity that we generally expect from this restaurant. 5-Star Rating!" -Ashley S. of Seal Beach, CA, Yelp Review, 6/8/2013

"We have been here a few times and are always very impressed with the food and service. We love the "old town" atmosphere and the wonderful selection of very nice wines. Prices are competitive for the area but the wide menu selections make this the perfect choice for steak, seafood or pasta. (The shortribs and the seafood pasta are excellent - as is the "mixed olive" appetizer.) 5-Star Rating!" -Lynnfromsandiego of San Diego, CA, Trip Advisor Review, 6/5/2013

"We took a while to get seated as the restaurant was backed up, despite a reservation. Food was excellent and I thought my husband three course meal was very decently priced. 5-Star Rating!" -Shrank723 of Los Angeles, California, Trip Advisor Review, 6/4/2013

"Great wine list, great ambience, great cheese platter.I had the corchina (a white fish, I didn't know what it was either) dish that was tasty; filling yet lite. My wife had spinach gnocchi. I am not a spinach fan but it was very tasty. The service was amazing too...I felt like a guest here. Very sweet people. If it is a busy night, eat at the bar...same menu and same great service. My wife and I had a cheese platter ap before dinner there. 5-Star Rating!" -Todd T. of Las Vegas, Nevada, Yelp Review, 5/31/2013

"Amazing!!! Keep doing that way! Thanks" -Abilio T. of Brazil, Restaurant Customer Feedback Card, 5/30/2013

"I just went here for the second time, and I really enjoyed it. The first visit, I'm embarrassed to admit, was on my first trip to this wine country and I had consumed a little too much vino to really appreciate the meal. This time, it was different. I went with my husband and two sisters. All three of us girls ordered the same pasta -- with green olives and garlic, and it was delicious. My husband got another pasta and also enjoyed it. Our waitress had a good sense of humor, and it was a very nice evening all the way around. 5-Star-Rating!" -Amy D. of San Diego, California, Yelp Review, 5/30/2013

"Wine tasting in style! After a previous day of heavy duty wine tasting in Paso Robles, we took a tasting interlude at the Los Olivos Cafe. We've gone to this clean, airy restaurant on the main Street several times over the years. But this time we sat at the bar, which is where you have to sit to order wine flights. We're glad we did! Friends ordered the Pinot tasting, five different pinots from various wine growing areas of California. And I ordered a white to red sampler. all accompanied by excellent, fresh food. The hamburger was top notch, and salads were beautiful. But we considered the wine flights the best tasting of our central coast trip. 5-Star Rating!" -'SusanMFlorida' of Santa Barbara, California, Trip Advisor Senior Contributor, 5/18/2013

"We love Bernat - the owner's wine!" -Carolyn W. of Los Angeles, CA, Restaurant Customer Feedback Card, 5/16/2013

"Loved everything about this restaurant ! Great mushroom truffled pizza and house salads. This restaurant is also connected to a wine & craft beer retail that makes for an interesting restroom excursion which may find you not returning to the table as quickly as your guests may expect. Fine service and casual vibe make this a winner stop in the town of Los Olivos ! One that I would highly recommend...and a menu that doesn't stray too far off from what items are expected of a cafe...will be back to try again !" -Mark D. of Costa Mesa, CA, Yelp Review, 5/15/2013

"What a lovely restaurant! Of all the places we visited during our weekend here, this is the only place I would really recommend. The ambiance is classy and warm with a nice bar in the middle of the restaurant. The wisteria vines growing on the porch are absolutely gorgeous - this would be such an amazing date spot. On the flip side, if you just want to catch the game and chill at the bar with a pizza, this is also your stop. Service was very friendly and our waitress was a lot of fun. She made some good recommendations -- the meatloaf! 5-Star Rating!" -'joan h.' of Sherman Oaks, CA, Yelp Review, 5/10/2013

"We went to Los Olivos for some wine and try the brothers' new restaurant. After lunch we stumbled on the Los Olivos Cafe restaurant and I read reviews. We decided to drive back the next day from our hotel (corque) in solvang & loved the food, outside patio & service. I found my portebelllo sandwich w veggies perfect with great focaccia bun with a bit of latent spice. My wife enjoyed the seared ahi salad - amazing! The bread was fresh and delicious. They had a number of vegetarian dishes that looked great like the ravioli & gnocchi - plus pizzas. 5-Star Rating!" -KipL of Santa Barbara, CA, Trip Advisor Review, 4/26/2013

"A wonderful meal worth the drive! We were staying in Ojai California visiting friends. We decided to take a drive to Solvang,a Danish village 25 miles northeast of Santa Barbara, about a 90 minute drive. We were told to enjoy the town but not to eat there. We had to drive to Los Olivos and have lunch at Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe. Better advice has never been given. We sat outside on the porch and had a great meal with great service. The assorted olive sampler with 9 different types was delicious. I had a Reuben and my wife had a burger. Both were terrific. Hers was cooked exactly as ordered which was great. After enjoying our meal we looked at their terrific wine selection. I would say this was our best meal during the week we were on holiday. 5-Star Rating!"

Although others in our group were familiar with this restaurant, it was my first time there, and hopefully, it won't be the last. 5-Star Rating!" [email protected]', Trip Advisor Review, 4/21/2013

"Stopped for a snack on between tastings and everything ordered was heaven on a plate. Baked Brie, the variety of cheese & fruit tray all the way down to the bread and the best olive oil w/ mixed herbs I've ever had!" -Niki C. of Downtown, San Diego, CA, Yelp Review, 4/20/2013

"We were at the San Ynez wine festival and dined the prior night at the Hitching Post. We wanted something a little lighter. If you like olives I would strongly recommend the olive assortment. Lingered on this while having a glass of albarino. Nice pair. We both had salads. Hers the Jacob salad which she said was very good and mine was green with raspberry, pecan and blue cheese. Quite tasty. This was followed by two past dishes hers was gnoochi and nine orecchiette. Both were good but we agreed the gnoochi was slightly better. You should be hungry because neither of us ate more than half of the entree. I had a glass of Happy Canyon Barrack with my entree which was the best wine I had all weekend. 5-Star Rating!" -OpenTable Diner Since 2009, Online Customer Review, 4/20/2013

Delicious food, my fave were the BAKED BRIE (flaky crust, soft inside) and the Burrata with Beets appetizer. All the ingredients looked great and fresh. "We stopped at this restaurant for lunch while cycling in the area and liked it so much we went back from dinner. We sat at the bar and our server encouraged us to try the flights of wine even though it was after 5:00pm when they normally stop serving flights. We enjoyed the wines we tasted in the flights and then ordered dinner. I ordered the 3 course dinner of salad appetizer, salmon entre and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Excellent food and excellent value for $35 including a glass of wine. My husband had the lamb shank, a large portion with the meat falling off the bone. He really enjoyed it with his Petite Sirah. Service from Sharon at the bar was excellent. A great experience! And if you're into cycling, the ride from Los Olivos to Solvang along Ballard Canyon Road is a fantastic ride." -'mcuscgr94' of Santa Ynez, California, Trip Advisor Top Contributor, 3/31/2013

"We actually ate here twice in two days! Once for lunch, once for dinner. Both meals were outstanding with lots of locally sourced ingredients - everything was very fresh. The stand-out dish was the Butternut Squash Caprese Salad. We had it both meals and will be trying to make it ourselves at home! The wine list was excellent and the mark up isn't bad at all. 5-Star Rating!" -OpenTable Diner Since 2009, Online Customer Review, 3/26/2013

We love eating there when we are in town (usually twice a year) and we always introduce new people to Los Olivos Cafe. They end up loving it as well. I appreciate a meal that isn't too heavy and decadent, but rather healthy and flavorful. Great food & atmosphere! 5-Star Rating!" -OpenTable Diner Since 2013, Online Customer Review, 3/22/2013

"After our full day of vineyard adventures in santa barbara, we decided to have dinner at los olivos wine merchant & cafe (after reading a bunch of reviews).Immediately fell in love with the place just from the outside!Iordered the ravioli, which they make in house. Mushrooms, ricotta, cream and parmesan ($16, a steal!). It was delicious! You have to get this. It was a lovely place to end a wonderful day at the vineyards." -'fabliss' of Los Angeles, California, WordPress Blog Review, 3/22/2013

"We dined here for a 30th wedding anniversary celebration on 3/20/13. Our experience was positive on all levels. Our server Joann was the perfect blend of attentive yet unobtrusive. She was also very knowledgeable in suggesting wine pairings with our selected entrees. Food was superb, as was the ambience and decor. A special treat was being able to purchase a few bottles of the same wine we enjoyed with our dinner. Overall the experience exceeded any expectations we had. We will definitely recommend this gem to others and hope to return on future trips to the Santa Ynez area. 5-Star Rating!" -Michael and Jeanne Holub, OpenTable Diner since 2005, 3/20/2013

"Karen was great! The food was great! We will be back. Thank you." -Tom & Denise H. of Los Olivos, CA, Restaurant Customer Feedback Card, 3/19/2013

"This is a cozy little restaurant with a four-sided fireplace. They serve an assortment of sandwiches and salads...as well as one of the largest wine selections I have ever seen. The bottles cover the full length of one wall of the restaurant. Plus, there is an outdoor seating area if you want to people watch while you eat. I've been here twice now while wine tasting in Los Olivos and haven't been disappointed.." -'HProckstar' of Pasadena, CA, Senior TripAdvisor Contributor, 3/18/2013

"Memorable Cuisine! I chose mushroom ravioli and I can honestly say it was divine; the type of meal you eat slowly to savor every bite. Our 24-year old son has traveled throughout Italy sampling Bolognese and his was excellent. As before, the servers were attentive without being over the top; they know about the food and wine being served and it's obvious they care about pairings; the wine list is of course excellent. And the interior is chic but not at all intimidating. We'd recommend it for a romantic couples dinner or dinner with friends.5-Star Rating!." -'ArtMajor' of Washington, DC, Senior TripAdvisor Reviewer, 3/18/2013

Salads are inventive (butternut caprese), and well-presented. The entrees ( pork tenderloin and short ribs) were delicious and satisfying to some very hungry diners. "My wife and I just had dinner here this weekend. The food was fantastic and the service was amazing. If you're staying for the night, I highly recommend dining here. I'd even recommend going there each night if staying for the weekend. We tried another restaurant the next night and ended up wishing we had come back to this one instead. The selection of wine is enormous, but the sommelier really helps pair a good glass with dinner so it's not overwhelming. He also didn't try to up sell us on a wine out of our comfort zone on price.Next time we're in Los Olivos, we'll be heading here again for sure. 5-Star Rating!" -Randy B. of Los Angeles, CA, Yelp Review, 3/4/2013

"Great lunch spot, great variety, reasonably priced! Four of us came here for lunch today and we had such a great meal. We started with the chicken wings to share. They were nicely seasoned with a light sweet sauce. I ordered the Ruben. Wow, it was real hand carved corned beef with sauerkraut and a light dressing on toasted rye. The French fries are fantastic, crispy and salty. My wife had the spinach salad. It was full of pears, blue cheese, radicchio, red onions and walnuts. Our friend had the soprosetta pizza which was very tasty. Crust was perfect and the sauce and toppings were great. Ice tea is flavored, but not too fruity. Nice dessert menu, but we passed this time. 5-Star Rating!" -'JoeAndNicole' of Ontario, CA, Trip Advisor Review, 3/2/3013

"The best Gem! We loved everything about our evening. We had asked for a table beside the fireplace, but it was still occupied so we took one elsewhere - didn't matter at all. Our server was outstanding, attentive but not overly so. Dishes were picked up, or delivered by whoever was walking by at the moment - so it is a real team effort. We shared a casear salad which was outstanding - and we both ordered the classic salmon because it had been so long since we had tasted it last. It was still outstanding. The salmon was cooked perfectly, the potatoes and veggies crisp and fresh. Our Longoria Pinot Noir (yes, with fish), was perfect for our pallet. This is now local restaurant to go to. 5-Star Rating!" -OpenTable Diner since 2009, Online Customer Review, 1/22/2013

"Hands down best restaurant in the area!! It was so good we went back on night two and it was as great as night one. Night one - Wife and Mother in law ordered the special 3 course meal with glass of wine for $35. What a screaming deal! The salmon was easily best salmon these lips have ever tasted in terms of cooked to perfection. Rarely do you go to restaurant and the fish is cooked to a perfect medium/medium rare. I ordered the lamb shank and it was just awesome, especially the bone marrow which I sucked out like a savage. One of best meals we've ever had.Night two - After such a great meal we had no choice but to go again the next night for dinner to try and recreate the magic. We all ordered something different - Papperdelle Bolognese (delicious and huge portion), mushroom ravioli (rich and creamy) and the short ribs which was a little disappointing as it was little dry and I needed to add salt and pepper. But overall the meal was still great and did not disappoint.Morale of the story, ..We've been to some of the the restaurants in the US and this is in the top 5 in terms of value, taste and overall ambiance. If this place were in San Diego we would go every week.5-Star Rating." -Paul K. of San Diego, CA, Yelp Review,11/5/2012

"After a great day of tasting, my wife and I went to this incredible restaurant. We ordered the olive and arancini appetizers. Both were fantastic. I next went for the Lamb Shank and my wife had short ribs. Both were incredibly delicious, the lamb just fell off of the bone. We also met some great people and were treated like we eat there every week. Our waiter was tremendous in making suggestions and was fully familiar with the menu and the wine. They have an extensive selection of wines for sale and the prices are reasonable. Just a great experience.Bravo! 5-Star-Rating!" -Giovanni S of Rome Italy, Yelp Review, 10/29/2012

"So everyone knows this place was featured in the Sideways movie/tour... but honestly, the food quality is phenomenal and deserves recognition on its own merits. The lamb shank was fall off the bone tender. Seriously, I order lamb whenever I can get it and this place is in the top 5, easy. The spring vegetable ragout was tender w/o being mushy. Oh, and save room for dessert! The "Cafe Sream" (hot fudge brownie & ice cream) needs to finish in your belly. 5-Star Rating!" -Greg P. of Lomita, CA, Yelp Review, 10/15/2012

"I've been to this place a few times over the years during wine tasting trips in beautiful central California and it rocks! My first time going there, I thought it would be a major tourist trap, being popular because of Sideways, but no, the food is excellent, and I'm picky! The brie with port sauce is incredible and their flat bread pizza with mushrooms (sounds so simple!) was outstanding! This is definitely a place you have to try if you are visiting- you will not be disappointed!. 5-Star Rating!" -Kate M. of Lomita, Richardson, Texas, Yelp, 9/14/2012

"They give you bread to start, and the the olive oil, garlic, herb, vinegar concoction is delicious! So much so, that we bought two bottles to take home. 5-Star Rating!" -Ernesto G. of Fountain Valley, CA, Yelp, 9/9/2012

"Saturday August 18..19th wedding anniversary..
Consistent food and consistent service..
It is like an authentic Euro cafe..service speed ebbs and flows but the food quality does not.
They have their own vineyard and the wine pairs beautifully with the foods we ordered.
Grenache Blanc by Bernat is sensational
Bravo! 5-Star Rating!

"All four dishes our group had were excellent as were the desserts." -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Feedback, 7/27/2012

"Popular local wine retreat. This is a hard-to-find niche restaurant in booming Los Olivos that is worth the wait - for both lunch and dinner. Outside seating is preferable in the summer but inside will work. Excellent service, tasty food and very extensive California wine selection. I'd make this place a regular stop on my California vacation travels." - 'snooge42' of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Trip Advisor, 7/25/2012

"The food here was amazing. Their pizzas are to die for. We liked the Alba pizza that we had as an appetizer so much, that we went back and had it for lunch the next day. The gnocchi that we ordered was delicious with fresh ingredients and the short ribs were tender and flavorful. The prices were reasonable and the wine list was more than adequate. I would definitely dine here again and recommend it to anyone that was in the area." -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Feedback, 7/23/2012

"I love this place! I have been here many times over the years with many different friends and family, meat lovers and vegetarians alike, and it never disappoints! The food is consistently great and the service is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The Los Olivos Cafe is by far the best restaurant in the entire area, considering food, service and atmosphere. I would suggest making a reservation for dinner, as they are always busy." -Dawn D., of Playa Del Rey, CA, Yelp, 7/21/2012

"One of my favorite stops. I never leave the Northern region without visiting this place. We always start off with the baked brie, a must have! The wine selection is amazing! We had a reservation and got right in! The wait staff was prompt and very friendly. I did the "Sideways" tasting Menu, with the salad starter and the short ribs, amazing!" -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Feedback, 7/16/2012

"My husband and I came through here on a hot Saturday in June and were very pleased. I had gnocchi with parmesan, pine nuts, favas, and peas, and loved it: the pesto was peppery, the gnocchi hot and pillowy, and the chewy softness of the gnocchi was balanced by the sharpness of the pine nuts and arugula. My husband's duck confit pizza was also delicious. The wine list is (unsurprisingly) deep and local: there are tasting flights available from area vineyards, which are wonderful. Friendly, attentive service and a relaxed atmosphere make this a great stop." -Julia S., of San Francisco, CA, Yelp, 7/3/2012

"Truly a delight! The difference between weekend and weekday in Los Olivas is like night and day. But getting into the Wine Merchant is the same because of the ambiance and food. The staff is quick & courteous. Food is excellent. They have added more restrooms which were desperately needed. The bar is terrific and the wine selection immense. You can buy wines and assorted other wine related products. Worth the drive." -'IrishPrincess57' of Tempe, AZ, Trip Advisor, 7/2/2012

"Sometimes I drive up from Los Angeles just to have lunch here and then head home. The food is so tasty, and the wine pairings exceptional. The bartenders are knowledgeable and personable. There is al fresco eating on a vine-covered patio or dining inside either at the bar or on the main floor. A fireplace is a plus in the winter months. If there is a wait, you can sit on the comfy sofa. I've always gone right in with no problem." - 'HappyWanderer' of Los Angeles, California, Trip Advisor, 6/1/2012

The Cafe floor is open and inviting, and the menu offered perfect pairings forsome of the wines we had sampled during the day. The ingredients are all fresh and the food presentation is well done. Their wine selection is huge. I prefer visiting the individual vineyards, but if I hadn't wanted to, I probably could have tasted them all here." -'woodp411' of Central California, Trip Advisor, 4-23-2012

"We have made this our favorite restaurant whenever we are in or near Los Olivos. We are always excited to dine there and tonight was one of the best. We had a Bernat Wine dinner there with the owner and wine maker of Bernat Wines and Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe. Everything was sumptuous from the first course to the end including the fabulous pairing of wines. Our glasses were never empty before the waitress or wine director fill them up again with some outstanding wines, both white and red. We made lovely friends, drank good wine and ate grrreat food. It was a winner for certain!" -Ferne R., of Ventura, CA, Yelp Review, 4-20-2012

"Excellent meals! I would like to add another positive review for this restaurant. We visit the area 3 or 4 times a year and Los Olivos Cafe has become our favorite restaurant. The atmosphere is casual and at times a bit noisy, but the food is of very high quality. Recently, we had an excellent spinach salad and the chicken toscano, which we've had several times, is really outstanding and quite unique. I found the sauce on the ravioli a bit heavy but most recently they had a papperdelle pasta special that was unusual and one of the best I've had anywhere. For dessert, there is always a "fruit crisp" available which changes periodically and has always been excellent. The staff is universally friendly and helpful and always anxious to please." -'jerryff' of Santa Cruz, CA, Trip Advisor Senior Reviewer, 4-16-2012

"These guys get it right across the board. The menu is interesting. Their wine list is strong with both local and broader offerings. Their service is attentive in all the right ways, and their space is inviting. Great spot for lunch or dinner!" -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Review, 04-14-2012

"One of the best places I've ever had the chance to visit. Simply terrific! Visiting the wine country near Santa Barbara used to be a quick afternoon activity, but over the last few years, the area has really blossomed and you simply can't get to all the wineries in any kind of reasonable amount of time. To solve this problem, this restaurant and wine store offers a wine list that is 35 pages long! Of course, it includes wines from all over the state and even from other countries, but the local wineries are the most prominent feature. Wow--so little time and so much to do. How can I ever taste them all? Luckily, the wine is just one of the features here at the Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe. The food is fantastic. I saw some yelp reviews that are less enthusiastic than mine and don't know why! But then, again, there are people who do not like chocolate and who do not like wine, so not everyone is as sane as I am which is the only explanation I can find for a less than stellar recommendation of this place. The menu is not 35 pages long like the wine list, but it is loaded with wonderful choices. I always look forward to a visit to the wine country in this blessed and wonderful state of California, not just for the wonderful California wines (eat your heart out, France), but for the terrific restaurants, the wonderful architecture usually used in the winery buildings, and the art frequently also found at the various wineries. But I especially love the terrific restaurants - like the Los Olivos Cafe - that are always a part of the wine country experience. (Again, eat your heart out, France.)" -Paul L., of Blue Jay, CA, Yelp Review, 4-12-2012

"Been to the Los Olivos Cafe several times and every time is delicious! A perfect example of farm to table type dining. My wife and I shared the amazing Beets & Burrata salad, then some house-made pasta and a salmon dish that was out of this world. We then shared a dessert - something called S'mores, which is basically smores plus ice cream, smashed into a mason jar. Insanely good! Service is always hit and miss, but this time A+ Then the wine....oh the wine! A cellar that features a ton of local producers and some cool international wines as well. The new beer list was a nice surprise too. Just read a recent review criticizing their by the glass list. They have over 50 wines by the glass, more than enough I would say! Really great wine staff and a rock star sommelier! If you are anywhere near Santa Barbara or on the 101 - make a trip. In fact, make two!" -Allen F., of Pasadena, CA, Yelp, 4-7-2012

"Great place to try different wines!” We went to Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Café on March 12, 2012 to celebrate a birthday. Our local bird guide recommended this place because we told him we wanted to try some local California wines and have a nice dinner. This was a Tuesday night and many of the wineries do not serve dinner during the week. We went to their website (Google it) and were able to get a reservation online for 7:45 PM…their last one. The wine selection here is huge…literally hundreds to choose from. They are not limited to California wines. I saw wines from France, Italy and even Ohio. The menu was heavy on Seafood, but also had pasta, steaks, and even pizza. Most of the meals were in the $18 to $30 range. We basically split one meal as I got the pasta special which was cooked with roasted peppers…very good and Jodie had a Salad and a soup. They had some good deserts and we chose to split something called a Café scream It was flourless chocolate cake with ice cream and Carmel syrup, again very good. Overall it was a nice place to eat especially during the week." -'Bobo185 'of Chardon, Ohio, Trip Advisor Senior Contributor, 4-6-2012

"Awesome Restaurant! The atmosphere was romantic and cozy... staff was amazingly friendly and accommodating.....I ordered the homemade pasta with homemade chicken sausage, and my friend ordered the pizza...Both were super delicious. "I was in Solvang for a friend's wedding, and said friend recommended dining at Los Olivos at least once. She knows everything, so I immediately visited this establishment, and OMG. SO good.We ordered a meat pizza with 'soppresata' and all kinds of other delicious cured meats, AND.... wait for it.... Butternut squash capres. I have never had anything so delicious in my entire life. Get ready to drool, kids, because this is one amazing dish. I savored every single bite, and may fly back to CA JUST to try this dish again. The pizza was also amazing. I don't know if they cure their meat onsite, but it's definitely Resh-to-the-Fresh. The hubs and I are both big eaters, and combined with their warm, house made bread with yummy olive oil and herbs, we were stuffed by the end and even had a few pieces of pizza for the car ride back to the airport. If you're in the area, make sure you stop in here. " -Kate R., Yelp, Kailua, Hawaii, 3/30/2012

"A gem in the wine country. We did not make our reservation due to a change in travel plans but 24 hours later we were at their doorstep and delighted to have a table on the patio! The waiter was great - very apologetic when the kitchen staff informed him one of the specials we ordered was no longer available. He quickly offered a substitute which turned out to be delicious. We ordered the prix fix menu with wine pairings - every course was fresh, flavorful, and unique. Extremely relaxed atmosphere which made for a lovely late afternoon meal. Great wine! 5-stars rating." -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Review, 3/28/2012

"Service just right! Food was perfect! Wine selection wonderful! Prices very fair! Thank you." -Ray B. Restaurant Customer Feedback Card, 3-27-2012

"We were in Los Olivos for 2 nights and ate at the Los Olivos Café both nights. I had the Sideways special both nights too, it was a great deal and tasted sooooo good. It came with Soup or salad, A delicious salmon, dessert which was a hot flourless brownie and ice cream, AND a glass of wine. It was so good the first night I couldn't pass it up the second. My husband had the skirt steak one night and a pizza the next, he loved everything he had also. The restaurant is very comfortable and the people we saw and talked to all seemed very nice. It's in a great location and I honestly can't say enough how great the food was. 5-stars rating." -Deanna C., Yelp Irvine, CA, 3/27/2012

"Can't say enough about our great experience. Food was amazing, and server Karen went out of her way to ensure that it was a special evening and everything was not just good, but GREAT! 5-stars rating." -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Feedback, 3/26/2012

"Love this place! My husband and stopped in at the Los Olivos Wine Merchant and Cafe again this week while in the area. This was our second time at this restaurant within 6 months, and we will surely return again. We arrived at 5:45 on a Thursday evening. The place is cozy, with seating outside, by the windows inside, and near a nice fireplace - as well as ample within the restaurant. There is a huge wine selection - and you can also purchase bottles of wine to take home. There is a large bar area, jutting into the restaurant. The ambience is wonderful - tablecloths, soft lighting, and a very nice level of ambient noise - not loud and no blaring music. The menu is fabulous - and you can select everything from a burger to wonderful salmon - with a great assortment of salads and appetizers. There is even a selection of gourmet pizzas on the menu. We each had a glass of wine, our own salads, and we split an entree that included fresh salmon. As a dessert, we ate "lightly" and each enjoyed a home made cookie. The food presentation is exquisite. Each meal includes very fresh home made bread with butter. Our waitress, Karen, is also wonderful - and she even remembered us from the last time. The cost of our meal - including a nice gratuity - was $96. You can also choose to eat much more cheaply than we did and still have a great meal. We'll be back! 5-stars rating." -'Hutchss', Senior Tripadvisor Contributor, Trip Advisor, Benicia, California, 3/24/2012

"Had late lunch with the parents and they loved it. What we had: 2 kinds of pizza generous in size and fresh salad with raspberries & dried figs in a raspberry vinaigrette....yum! We also got a half bottle of Pinot noir (forgot the name but it was really good!) to pair the pizza with. This is the place to go after some wine tastings or when you're hungry for a late lunch. Early dinner starts at 5pm fyi. 5-stars rating." -Esther K., Yelp, San Francisco, California, 3/18/2012

"We're never disappointed at Los Olivos Cafe. Its a popular, lively place which definitely needs a reservation. The wine selection is excellent and the food matches. The staff is usually knowledgeable and can help with a wine pairing which is most of the fun. Our whole table would recommend the mushroom ravioli with the Chanter chardonnay." --OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Feedback, 3/16/2012

"This has become one of my favorite restaurants! I had the BBQ brisket sandwich and it was amazing! My girlfriend had a salad that included spinach and pears which was amazing. The pizzas look amazing, that's what I will be getting next time. I had a glass of wine that was very good. The dipping oil that comes with the bread is awesome! The outside dining area is great and the service was great as well. I highly recommend this place! 5-stars rating." -Josh G., Yelp, Goleta, CA, 3/15/2012

"Stopped for a wonderful lunch here on a Spring Sunday. High quality and fresh options with good soups, cheeses, pizza and specials. Nice interior and a front patio is great for people watching! 5-stars rating." -'Spi-kids_LA', Senior Tripadvisor Contributor, Trip Advisor, Los Angeles, California, 3/11/2012

"Heaping Portions and Cozy Setting! After a day of unseasonably warm temperatures, the evening chill had started to descend as we entered Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe -- just in time, they switched on their gas fireplace and the restaurant twinkled in the charming glow of good food and cozy tables. We ordered pasta dishes -- a delicious gnocchi dish with parmesan cheese, butternut squash and hazelnuts and papparadelle with a rich and yummy bolognese sauce that was dotted with chunks of tender beef and bites of earthy carrot. The pasta servings were beyond generous (we took home enough for two extra meals), so we didn't sample the elegant dessert menu at the restaurant. But our waitress talked us into taking home some fresh-from-the-oven cookies -- a fabulous sable shortbread cookie and a delicious chocolate chunk cookie -- we were so glad we did...the perfect breakfast the next day with our morning coffee. We wish we had been there on a Sunday to try their family-style meal. But if you find yourself in the wine country outside Santa Barbara, you won't be disappointed by the drive to Los Olivos!! 5-stars rating." -'Livingwatergirl'', Senior Tripadvisor Contributor, Trip Advisor, Orlando, Florida, 3/10/2012

"There aren't a lot of places to eat in Los Olivos but this one is a good option. I had a very yummy salad with apples and cranberries, my friend had a brisket sandwich, both delicious. Great selection of wines and good suggestions from the wait staff." -'Callan1034', Trip Advisor, San Diego, California, 3/8/2012

"This place is a true gem--especially if you only have to stumble across the street from the Fess Parker Inn & Spa. They take their menu very seriously and offer a fresh taste of local and seasonal dishes. The homemade stuffed ravioli reminded me of what pasta SHOULD taste like. It was delicious! We went with friends and everyone was happy with their meal. Fun atmosphere for friends and couples. Wouldn't advise bringing kids." -'Jonathon Q', Senior Tripadvisor Contributor, Trip Advisor, Los Angeles, California, 3/6/2012

"We went there during our wine tasting trip to the area for an anniversary. Started with the recommended Brie and were very impressed. Followed with butternut squash risotto and mushroom ravioli which were both also excellent. We paired these dishes with a 2009 Bernat Clarity from Santa Barbara and 2009 Amos Cellars Shepard Pinot from the Central Coast. We plan to stop here every time we visit the area and are highly recommending this restaurant to friends. 5-stars rating." -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Review, 2/26/2012

The diner really benefits from the cafe also being a bottle shop; the wine selection is very broad and also very reasonably priced. Our bottle was pulled off the shelf.5-stars rating." -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Review, 2/10/2012

"Matt was so helpful. He gave great recommendations and personalized service. Thank you" -Teresa, Customer Feedback Card, Santa Barbara, CA, 2/8/2012

"One of the best restaurants anywhere! A soulful place with fresh food, responsive service, reasonable pricing. My wife and I went for dinner on Super bowl Sunday, when it was easy to snag a table. We chose the fixed price dinner and were surprised that it included a round of good local wine. My ravioli was homemade, buttery. My wife chose the ribs, perfectly cooked and tender with abundant vegetables. I liked the house wine so much, a Pinot better than anything I had sampled in three different local tastings, that I ordered five bottles to take with us. What really sets this restaurant apart is an entire long wall filled with more wine bottles than I have ever seen outside of a wine cellar. Wine fuels this place. relaxes its clientele, complements great food. Ask for a table by the fireplace. 5-stars rating." 'Gurnout', Trip Advisor Reviewer, Rye, New York, 2/5/2012

"Look at that body, I work out. But my body turns to jelly anytime I eat at "Los Olivos Cafe," the most seductive & tranquilizing of French restaurants and the most essential eatery in all of Solvang and Santa Ynez Valley. Ask the waiters about wine flights, they're generous. This time, I had a wonderful, supple wine Port to go with my hot fudge brownie & ice cream dessert ("Cafe Scream"). It's the Ripley's Believe It or Not of desserts, and you better start believing :) 5-stars rating." -Sean C., Yelp, Los Angeles, CA, 1/29/2012

"This Establishment is very lovely. It looks tiny from the outside but has tons of open space and a very modern look. The wine tastings are very good and depending on what you enjoy drinking the flights are great. The cafe turkey is delicious and the staff was great. I can't wait to drive up, stop in and enjoy more from the L.O. wine merchant cafe. 5-stars rating." -EJ S., Yelp, Torrance, CA, 1/24/2012

"After an exhausting day touring the local wineries it was time for a relaxing lunch. I had been once before to this restaurant for dinner and admit I first heard about the place from the movie Sideways. More importantly, I had read several good reviews which further prompted me to choose this quaint place. I was not disappointed. The quality of food and friendly staff not to mention the atmosphere make this one of the best restaurants in the San Ynez valley.
Lunch can range from salads and pizza to the best hamburgers around. Dinner is more upscale with local organic products and meats. I recommend the braised lamb shanks.Need a break for lunch or dinner then Los Olivos Wine Cafe is the place to go. Enjoy!!!

"Sophisticated, modern, fine dining in the middle of a sleepy town (of course, in the heart of wine country). The food was simply amazing. They also keep a wine list that will compete with any out there. My waitress wasn't as knowledgeable about wine as I would have expected, but deferred questions to the wine merchant at the bar who was fantastic -- incredibly knowledgeable, great suggestions. 5-stars rating." -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Review, 1/14/2012

"On a recent trip into the Santa Ynez, we dropped in on the ever-popular Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe for a late lunch. We lucked out with one of the last available tables (without a reservation) and were greeted with friendly, attentive service. To drink, I went with a glass of red wine, the 2008 Bernat "Equality" Syrah, which was recommended by our waiter. My wine was exactly what I needed to start off my weekend in the valley; not too tannic, with a medium-body, moderate acidity, and not an overwhelming fruit bomb, either. After lunch, I walked over to the wall of wines they have to sale, which was made famous in the movie Sideways. They carry a large amount of producers from this region as well as other areas both domestically and some internationally, but after seeing a bottle of 2008 Hitching Post Highliner for cheaper than I have seen it at other wine shops (and at the restaurant), I grabbed a bottle of that to take home. I also perused their small beer section and took home a bottle of barrel-aged Old Rasputin Imperial Stout by North Coast for also much cheaper than other shops." -Frances L., Yelp Review, Los Angeles, California, 1/13/2012

"Consistently Outstanding for the Last Two Years! I recently visited the Wine Merchant Again - my boyfriend and I visit nearly every six weeks for lunch. There are not enough words to describe what a wonderful experience this is EVERY TIME. The food is spectacularly fresh - produce comes from local farms, and everything is always cooked to perfection. My boyfriend likes the roasted chicken with root vegetables - the chicken is moist and the vegetables are unlike anything I've ever tasted. I like the Salmon Salad (or as I like to call it, the "antioxidant salad"). It has fresh beets, salmon, spinach, marcona almonds, radishes, green beans, etc. It's fantastic. Also, the ambience is lovely. Aside from the occasional celebrity sightings, the decor is both chic and funky. The services is also very good, and the selection of wines is excellent. If you are ever anywhere remotely near to Los Olivos, make sure you visit the Wine Merchant for lunch or dinner!" -"ockathylovesred",Trip Advisor, 12/1/2011

Great food for lunch that was well-prepared with huge portions for the $. Service was very friendly and attentive. I was told it was off-season because getting a table was easy. The way they use fresh ingredients from the area is a big plus for me. Parm Gnocchi is to die for! I was in heaven when I walked in and saw more Santa Barbara wines than I knew existed. "Best restaurant service in Santa Barbara County!" -Josh, Los Olivos Cafe Customer Feedback Card, 9/16/2011

"Elegantly understated! The Los Olivos cafe is a casual atmosphere type of restaurant that is serving big time food and wine. From the farm fresh salads and the spare rib dinner to the well stocked wine list featuring many gems from the local area it is hard to go wrong. The restaurant features a fireplace that divides the restaurant and is choice seating if you can get it. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Santa Barbara Wine Country area." -"JazzMat," Trip Advisor, Chicago, IL, 9/8/2011

"Love this restaurant and will come back whenever I visit Solvang. The food and service are excellent! I love the ambiance as well as the location in the small downtown area of Los Olivos. I ordered the fried risotto as an appetizer, which was so heavenly with the creamy melted cheesy interior and the contrasting crispy, savory breaded fried crust. Definitely come here if you visit Los Olivos. I know I will be back!" -Charlene M., Yelp, Garden Grove, CA, 9/6/2011

"A gem in adorable Los Olivos! Shared the wonderful baked Brie for an appetizer and a margherita pizza for our meal. Both were high quality and prepared carefully. The olive oil with our bread was out of this world. Wine list was excellent, particularly the 05 Pinot and the Grenache blanc. Bought 2 bottles of the latter. Service was friendly and efficient. Atmosphere was modern yet quaint, some great decor." -Likeate07, TripAdvisor, Newport, VA, 8/27/2011

"Everything was perfect. Our compliments to the Chef and staff!" -Cynthia, Restaurant Feedback Card, Culver City, CA on 8/20/2011

"There is a very impressive selection of both local wines and ones from other areas, including some from Europe, S. Africa, Australia, S. America. We had several bottles of a very affordable wine from their specials list to go with dinner. Food was from fresh ingredients and well prepared. Clientele was a mix of locals and swanky folks from out-of-town. Easy to tell the difference by the shoes - just like in Europe! We met folks visiting from the mid-west and they were suitably pleased. We would come back again and recommend it to folks looking for a relaxed dining experience. They also have a decent beer list if you just need to wet your whistle." -OpenTable Diner, San Luis Obispo, CA, 8/18/2011
