"A wonderful meal worth the drive! We were staying in Ojai California visiting friends. We decided to take a drive to Solvang,a Danish village 25 miles northeast of Santa Barbara, about a 90 minute drive. We were told to enjoy the town but not to eat there. We had to drive to Los Olivos and have lunch at Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe. Better advice has never been given. We sat outside on the porch and had a great meal with great service. The assorted olive sampler with 9 different types was delicious. I had a Reuben and my wife had a burger. Both were terrific. Hers was cooked exactly as ordered which was great. After enjoying our meal we looked at their terrific wine selection. I would say this was our best meal during the week we were on holiday. 5-Star Rating!"

"Outstanding food and wine pairings. Will definitely return!! 5-Star Rating!" -OpenTable Diner Since 2007, Online Customer Review, 4/22/2013

"Our party of ten was well satisfied all around. I was in the area to attend the annual Vintner's Festival and had the opportunity to try this restaurant...I was not disappointed. Although others in our group were familiar with this restaurant, it was my first time there, and hopefully, it won't be the last. 5-Star Rating!" -'patc909@yahoo.com', Trip Advisor Review, 4/21/2013

"Stopped for a snack on between tastings and everything ordered was heaven on a plate. Baked Brie, the variety of cheese & fruit tray all the way down to the bread and the best olive oil w/ mixed herbs I've ever had!" -Niki C. of Downtown, San Diego, CA, Yelp Review, 4/20/2013

"We were at the San Ynez wine festival and dined the prior night at the Hitching Post. We wanted something a little lighter. If you like olives I would strongly recommend the olive assortment. Lingered on this while having a glass of albarino. Nice pair. We both had salads. Hers the Jacob salad which she said was very good and mine was green with raspberry, pecan and blue cheese. Quite tasty. This was followed by two past dishes hers was gnoochi and nine orecchiette. Both were good but we agreed the gnoochi was slightly better. You should be hungry because neither of us ate more than half of the entree. I had a glass of Happy Canyon Barrack with my entree which was the best wine I had all weekend. 5-Star Rating!" -OpenTable Diner Since 2009, Online Customer Review, 4/20/2013

"Super cute restaurant on a busy street. GREAT for groups! I made a reservation for 20 and they gave us the private room. Delicious food, my fave were the BAKED BRIE (flaky crust, soft inside) and the Burrata with Beets appetizer. All the ingredients looked great and fresh. Friends ordered the green gnocchi with kale and the ravioli and they loved it! . Good service WILL DEFINITELY GO BACK. 5-Star Rating!" -Tibisay G. of Orange, CA, Yelp Review, 4/15/2013

"We stopped at this restaurant for lunch while cycling in the area and liked it so much we went back from dinner. We sat at the bar and our server encouraged us to try the flights of wine even though it was after 5:00pm when they normally stop serving flights. We enjoyed the wines we tasted in the flights and then ordered dinner. I ordered the 3 course dinner of salad appetizer, salmon entre and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Excellent food and excellent value for $35 including a glass of wine. My husband had the lamb shank, a large portion with the meat falling off the bone. He really enjoyed it with his Petite Sirah. Service from Sharon at the bar was excellent. A great experience! And if you're into cycling, the ride from Los Olivos to Solvang along Ballard Canyon Road is a fantastic ride." -'mcuscgr94' of Santa Ynez, California, Trip Advisor Top Contributor, 3/31/2013

"I am salivating just thinking about Los Olivos Cafe. This food is amazing. Absolutely amazing. "Yummy! Been here twice, best food in SB county. Great, friendly service! Thanks!" -Katie S. of Corona, CA, Restaurant Customer Feedback Card, 3/30/2013

"We actually ate here twice in two days! Once for lunch, once for dinner. Both meals were outstanding with lots of locally sourced ingredients - everything was very fresh. The stand-out dish was the Butternut Squash Caprese Salad. We had it both meals and will be trying to make it ourselves at home! The wine list was excellent and the mark up isn't bad at all. 5-Star Rating!" -OpenTable Diner Since 2009, Online Customer Review, 3/26/2013

"Thank you very much. Always a great place for us." -Brian H. of the Los Angeles, CA, Restaurant Customer Feedback Card, 3/22/2013

"We loved the special.....Halibut. It wasn't too heavy, but wonderful and a perfect meal. We love eating there when we are in town (usually twice a year) and we always introduce new people to Los Olivos Cafe. They end up loving it as well. I appreciate a meal that isn't too heavy and decadent, but rather healthy and flavorful. Great food & atmosphere! 5-Star Rating!" -OpenTable Diner Since 2013, Online Customer Review, 3/22/2013

"After our full day of vineyard adventures in santa barbara, we decided to have dinner at los olivos wine merchant & cafe (after reading a bunch of reviews).Immediately fell in love with the place just from the outside!Iordered the ravioli, which they make in house. Mushrooms, ricotta, cream and parmesan ($16, a steal!). It was delicious! You have to get this. It was a lovely place to end a wonderful day at the vineyards." -'fabliss' of Los Angeles, California, WordPress Blog Review, 3/22/2013

"Exceeded our expectations for a special event dinner. Joanne was an exemplary server from wine suggestions to being attentive; yet not intrusive. We shall return!" -Jeanne H. Lancaster of California, Restaurant Customer Feedback Card, 3/20/2013

"We dined here for a 30th wedding anniversary celebration on 3/20/13. Our experience was positive on all levels. Our server Joann was the perfect blend of attentive yet unobtrusive. She was also very knowledgeable in suggesting wine pairings with our selected entrees. Food was superb, as was the ambience and decor. A special treat was being able to purchase a few bottles of the same wine we enjoyed with our dinner. Overall the experience exceeded any expectations we had. We will definitely recommend this gem to others and hope to return on future trips to the Santa Ynez area. 5-Star Rating!" -Michael and Jeanne Holub, OpenTable Diner since 2005, 3/20/2013

"Karen was great! The food was great! We will be back. Thank you." -Tom & Denise H. of Los Olivos, CA, Restaurant Customer Feedback Card, 3/19/2013

"This is a cozy little restaurant with a four-sided fireplace. They serve an assortment of sandwiches and salads...as well as one of the largest wine selections I have ever seen. The bottles cover the full length of one wall of the restaurant. Plus, there is an outdoor seating area if you want to people watch while you eat. I've been here twice now while wine tasting in Los Olivos and haven't been disappointed.." -'HProckstar' of Pasadena, CA, Senior TripAdvisor Contributor, 3/18/2013

"Memorable Cuisine! I chose mushroom ravioli and I can honestly say it was divine; the type of meal you eat slowly to savor every bite. Our 24-year old son has traveled throughout Italy sampling Bolognese and his was excellent. As before, the servers were attentive without being over the top; they know about the food and wine being served and it's obvious they care about pairings; the wine list is of course excellent. And the interior is chic but not at all intimidating. We'd recommend it for a romantic couples dinner or dinner with friends.5-Star Rating!." -'ArtMajor' of Washington, DC, Senior TripAdvisor Reviewer, 3/18/2013

"Good! Good! Good! What A treat, service good, gooood food, atmosphere good. No rush, relax and enjoy, go and enjoy, lovely city." -'a a' of Atlanta, Georgia, Senior TripAdvisor Reviewer, 3/15/2013

"So good! We drove up 154 from Santa Barbara to just have lunch. We split the tasting menu for $29 which was a 3 course meal with 3 different wines. My husband had a separate wine. Everything was fresh and delicious. Lots of variety, beautiful presentation... It was a great way to really savor how the wine and food complemented each other... It's the only place we care to eat or to try wines. 5-Star Rating!" -'SueJZab' of Edgewood, New Mexico, Trip Advisor Reviewer, 3/10/2013

"Los Olivos Cafe provides a consistently outstanding dining experience. Their approach to California cuisine, in their lively and eclectic environment never misses. Salads are inventive (butternut caprese), and well-presented. The entrees ( pork tenderloin and short ribs) were delicious and satisfying to some very hungry diners. Service is attentive, but not cloying. And, the wine service to food pairings is perfectly executed. 5-Star Rating!" -OpenTable Diner Since 2007, Online Customer Review, 3/9/2013

"My wife and I just had dinner here this weekend. The food was fantastic and the service was amazing. If you're staying for the night, I highly recommend dining here. I'd even recommend going there each night if staying for the weekend. We tried another restaurant the next night and ended up wishing we had come back to this one instead. The selection of wine is enormous, but the sommelier really helps pair a good glass with dinner so it's not overwhelming. He also didn't try to up sell us on a wine out of our comfort zone on price.Next time we're in Los Olivos, we'll be heading here again for sure. 5-Star Rating!" -Randy B. of Los Angeles, CA, Yelp Review, 3/4/2013

"Great lunch spot, great variety, reasonably priced! Four of us came here for lunch today and we had such a great meal. We started with the chicken wings to share. They were nicely seasoned with a light sweet sauce. I ordered the Ruben. Wow, it was real hand carved corned beef with sauerkraut and a light dressing on toasted rye. The French fries are fantastic, crispy and salty. My wife had the spinach salad. It was full of pears, blue cheese, radicchio, red onions and walnuts. Our friend had the soprosetta pizza which was very tasty. Crust was perfect and the sauce and toppings were great. Ice tea is flavored, but not too fruity. Nice dessert menu, but we passed this time. 5-Star Rating!" -'JoeAndNicole' of Ontario, CA, Trip Advisor Review, 3/2/3013

"The best Gem! We loved everything about our evening. We had asked for a table beside the fireplace, but it was still occupied so we took one elsewhere - didn't matter at all. Our server was outstanding, attentive but not overly so. Dishes were picked up, or delivered by whoever was walking by at the moment - so it is a real team effort. We shared a casear salad which was outstanding - and we both ordered the classic salmon because it had been so long since we had tasted it last. It was still outstanding. The salmon was cooked perfectly, the potatoes and veggies crisp and fresh. Our Longoria Pinot Noir (yes, with fish), was perfect for our pallet. This is now local restaurant to go to. 5-Star Rating!" -OpenTable Diner since 2009, Online Customer Review, 1/22/2013

We also shared a gourmet pizza ($14.00). Between that and the delicious bread with seasoned dipping oil they bring to your table, we were stuffed. Though the town was mostly closed up New Year's day, we drove forty-five minutes from Santa Barbara just to enjoy the restaurant and to have a lovely meal. "Hands down best restaurant in the area!! It was so good we went back on night two and it was as great as night one. Night one - Wife and Mother in law ordered the special 3 course meal with glass of wine for $35. What a screaming deal! The salmon was easily best salmon these lips have ever tasted in terms of cooked to perfection. Rarely do you go to restaurant and the fish is cooked to a perfect medium/medium rare. I ordered the lamb shank and it was just awesome, especially the bone marrow which I sucked out like a savage. One of best meals we've ever had.Night two - After such a great meal we had no choice but to go again the next night for dinner to try and recreate the magic. We all ordered something different - Papperdelle Bolognese (delicious and huge portion), mushroom ravioli (rich and creamy) and the short ribs which was a little disappointing as it was little dry and I needed to add salt and pepper. But overall the meal was still great and did not disappoint.Morale of the story, ..We've been to some of the the restaurants in the US and this is in the top 5 in terms of value, taste and overall ambiance. If this place were in San Diego we would go every week.5-Star Rating." -Paul K. of San Diego, CA, Yelp Review,11/5/2012

"After a great day of tasting, my wife and I went to this incredible restaurant. We ordered the olive and arancini appetizers. Both were fantastic. I next went for the Lamb Shank and my wife had short ribs. Both were incredibly delicious, the lamb just fell off of the bone. We also met some great people and were treated like we eat there every week. Our waiter was tremendous in making suggestions and was fully familiar with the menu and the wine. They have an extensive selection of wines for sale and the prices are reasonable. Just a great experience.Bravo! 5-Star-Rating!" -Giovanni S of Rome Italy, Yelp Review, 10/29/2012

"So everyone knows this place was featured in the Sideways movie/tour... but honestly, the food quality is phenomenal and deserves recognition on its own merits. The lamb shank was fall off the bone tender. Seriously, I order lamb whenever I can get it and this place is in the top 5, easy. The spring vegetable ragout was tender w/o being mushy. Oh, and save room for dessert! The "Cafe Sream" (hot fudge brownie & ice cream) needs to finish in your belly. 5-Star Rating!" -Greg P. of Lomita, CA, Yelp Review, 10/15/2012

"I've been to this place a few times over the years during wine tasting trips in beautiful central California and it rocks! My first time going there, I thought it would be a major tourist trap, being popular because of Sideways, but no, the food is excellent, and I'm picky! The brie with port sauce is incredible and their flat bread pizza with mushrooms (sounds so simple!) was outstanding! This is definitely a place you have to try if you are visiting- you will not be disappointed!. 5-Star Rating!" -Kate M. of Lomita, Richardson, Texas, Yelp, 9/14/2012

"Saturday August 18..19th wedding anniversary..
Consistent food and consistent service..
It is like an authentic Euro cafe..service speed ebbs and flows but the food quality does not.
They have their own vineyard and the wine pairs beautifully with the foods we ordered.
Grenache Blanc by Bernat is sensational
Bravo! 5-Star Rating!

"Popular local wine retreat. This is a hard-to-find niche restaurant in booming Los Olivos that is worth the wait - for both lunch and dinner. Outside seating is preferable in the summer but inside will work. Excellent service, tasty food and very extensive California wine selection. I'd make this place a regular stop on my California vacation travels." - 'snooge42' of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Trip Advisor, 7/25/2012

"The food here was amazing. Their pizzas are to die for. We liked the Alba pizza that we had as an appetizer so much, that we went back and had it for lunch the next day. The gnocchi that we ordered was delicious with fresh ingredients and the short ribs were tender and flavorful. The prices were reasonable and the wine list was more than adequate. I would definitely dine here again and recommend it to anyone that was in the area." -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Feedback, 7/23/2012

"I love this place! I have been here many times over the years with many different friends and family, meat lovers and vegetarians alike, and it never disappoints! I would suggest making a reservation for dinner, as they are always busy." -Dawn D., of Playa Del Rey, CA, Yelp, 7/21/2012

"One of my favorite stops. I never leave the Northern region without visiting this place. We always start off with the baked brie, a must have! The wine selection is amazing! We had a reservation and got right in! The wait staff was prompt and very friendly. I did the "Sideways" tasting Menu, with the salad starter and the short ribs, amazing!" -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Feedback, 7/16/2012

"My husband and I came through here on a hot Saturday in June and were very pleased. I had gnocchi with parmesan, pine nuts, favas, and peas, and loved it: the pesto was peppery, the gnocchi hot and pillowy, and the chewy softness of the gnocchi was balanced by the sharpness of the pine nuts and arugula. My husband's duck confit pizza was also delicious. The wine list is (unsurprisingly) deep and local: there are tasting flights available from area vineyards, which are wonderful. Friendly, attentive service and a relaxed atmosphere make this a great stop." -Julia S., of San Francisco, CA, Yelp, 7/3/2012

"Truly a delight! The difference between weekend and weekday in Los Olivas is like night and day. But getting into the Wine Merchant is the same because of the ambiance and food. The staff is quick & courteous. Food is excellent. They have added more restrooms which were desperately needed. The bar is terrific and the wine selection immense. You can buy wines and assorted other wine related products. Worth the drive." -'IrishPrincess57' of Tempe, AZ, Trip Advisor, 7/2/2012

There is al fresco eating on a vine-covered patio or dining inside either at the bar or on the main floor. A fireplace is a plus in the winter months. If there is a wait, you can sit on the comfy sofa. I've always gone right in with no problem." - 'HappyWanderer' of Los Angeles, California, Trip Advisor, 6/1/2012

The Cafe floor is open and inviting, and the menu offered perfect pairings forsome of the wines we had sampled during the day. The ingredients are all fresh and the food presentation is well done. Their wine selection is huge. "We have made this our favorite restaurant whenever we are in or near Los Olivos. We are always excited to dine there and tonight was one of the best. We had a Bernat Wine dinner there with the owner and wine maker of Bernat Wines and Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe. Everything was sumptuous from the first course to the end including the fabulous pairing of wines. Our glasses were never empty before the waitress or wine director fill them up again with some outstanding wines, both white and red. We made lovely friends, drank good wine and ate grrreat food. It was a winner for certain!" -Ferne R., of Ventura, CA, Yelp Review, 4-20-2012

"Excellent meals! I would like to add another positive review for this restaurant. We visit the area 3 or 4 times a year and Los Olivos Cafe has become our favorite restaurant. The atmosphere is casual and at times a bit noisy, but the food is of very high quality. Recently, we had an excellent spinach salad and the chicken toscano, which we've had several times, is really outstanding and quite unique. I found the sauce on the ravioli a bit heavy but most recently they had a papperdelle pasta special that was unusual and one of the best I've had anywhere. For dessert, there is always a "fruit crisp" available which changes periodically and has always been excellent. The staff is universally friendly and helpful and always anxious to please." -'jerryff' of Santa Cruz, CA, Trip Advisor Senior Reviewer, 4-16-2012

"These guys get it right across the board. The menu is interesting. Their wine list is strong with both local and broader offerings. Their service is attentive in all the right ways, and their space is inviting. Great spot for lunch or dinner!" -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Review, 04-14-2012

"One of the best places I've ever had the chance to visit. Simply terrific! Visiting the wine country near Santa Barbara used to be a quick afternoon activity, but over the last few years, the area has really blossomed and you simply can't get to all the wineries in any kind of reasonable amount of time. To solve this problem, this restaurant and wine store offers a wine list that is 35 pages long! Of course, it includes wines from all over the state and even from other countries, but the local wineries are the most prominent feature. Wow--so little time and so much to do. How can I ever taste them all? Luckily, the wine is just one of the features here at the Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe. The food is fantastic. I saw some yelp reviews that are less enthusiastic than mine and don't know why! But then, again, there are people who do not like chocolate and who do not like wine, so not everyone is as sane as I am which is the only explanation I can find for a less than stellar recommendation of this place. The menu is not 35 pages long like the wine list, but it is loaded with wonderful choices. I always look forward to a visit to the wine country in this blessed and wonderful state of California, not just for the wonderful California wines (eat your heart out, France), but for the terrific restaurants, the wonderful architecture usually used in the winery buildings, and the art frequently also found at the various wineries. But I especially love the terrific restaurants - like the Los Olivos Cafe - that are always a part of the wine country experience. (Again, eat your heart out, France.)" -Paul L., of Blue Jay, CA, Yelp Review, 4-12-2012

"Been to the Los Olivos Cafe several times and every time is delicious! A perfect example of farm to table type dining. My wife and I shared the amazing Beets & Burrata salad, then some house-made pasta and a salmon dish that was out of this world. We then shared a dessert - something called S'mores, which is basically smores plus ice cream, smashed into a mason jar. Insanely good! Service is always hit and miss, but this time A+ Then the wine....oh the wine! A cellar that features a ton of local producers and some cool international wines as well. The new beer list was a nice surprise too. Just read a recent review criticizing their by the glass list. They have over 50 wines by the glass, more than enough I would say! Really great wine staff and a rock star sommelier! If you are anywhere near Santa Barbara or on the 101 - make a trip. In fact, make two!" -Allen F., of Pasadena, CA, Yelp, 4-7-2012

"Great place to try different wines!” We went to Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Café on March 12, 2012 to celebrate a birthday. Our local bird guide recommended this place because we told him we wanted to try some local California wines and have a nice dinner. This was a Tuesday night and many of the wineries do not serve dinner during the week. We went to their website (Google it) and were able to get a reservation online for 7:45 PM…their last one. The wine selection here is huge…literally hundreds to choose from. They are not limited to California wines. I saw wines from France, Italy and even Ohio. The menu was heavy on Seafood, but also had pasta, steaks, and even pizza. Most of the meals were in the $18 to $30 range. We basically split one meal as I got the pasta special which was cooked with roasted peppers…very good and Jodie had a Salad and a soup. They had some good deserts and we chose to split something called a Café scream It was flourless chocolate cake with ice cream and Carmel syrup, again very good. Overall it was a nice place to eat especially during the week." -'Bobo185 'of Chardon, Ohio, Trip Advisor Senior Contributor, 4-6-2012

"Awesome Restaurant! The atmosphere was romantic and cozy... staff was amazingly friendly and accommodating.....I ordered the homemade pasta with homemade chicken sausage, and my friend ordered the pizza...Both were super delicious. "I was in Solvang for a friend's wedding, and said friend recommended dining at Los Olivos at least once. She knows everything, so I immediately visited this establishment, and OMG. SO good.We ordered a meat pizza with 'soppresata' and all kinds of other delicious cured meats, AND.... wait for it.... Butternut squash capres. I have never had anything so delicious in my entire life. Get ready to drool, kids, because this is one amazing dish. I savored every single bite, and may fly back to CA JUST to try this dish again. The pizza was also amazing. I don't know if they cure their meat onsite, but it's definitely Resh-to-the-Fresh. The hubs and I are both big eaters, and combined with their warm, house made bread with yummy olive oil and herbs, we were stuffed by the end and even had a few pieces of pizza for the car ride back to the airport. If you're in the area, make sure you stop in here. " -Kate R., Yelp, Kailua, Hawaii, 3/30/2012

"A gem in the wine country. We did not make our reservation due to a change in travel plans but 24 hours later we were at their doorstep and delighted to have a table on the patio! The waiter was great - very apologetic when the kitchen staff informed him one of the specials we ordered was no longer available. He quickly offered a substitute which turned out to be delicious. We ordered the prix fix menu with wine pairings - every course was fresh, flavorful, and unique. Extremely relaxed atmosphere which made for a lovely late afternoon meal. Great wine! 5-stars rating." -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Review, 3/28/2012

"Service just right! Food was perfect! Wine selection wonderful! Prices very fair! Thank you." -Ray B. Restaurant Customer Feedback Card, 3-27-2012

"We were in Los Olivos for 2 nights and ate at the Los Olivos Café both nights. I had the Sideways special both nights too, it was a great deal and tasted sooooo good. It came with Soup or salad, A delicious salmon, dessert which was a hot flourless brownie and ice cream, AND a glass of wine. It was so good the first night I couldn't pass it up the second. My husband had the skirt steak one night and a pizza the next, he loved everything he had also. The restaurant is very comfortable and the people we saw and talked to all seemed very nice. It's in a great location and I honestly can't say enough how great the food was. 5-stars rating." -Deanna C., Yelp Irvine, CA, 3/27/2012

"Can't say enough about our great experience. Food was amazing, and server Karen went out of her way to ensure that it was a special evening and everything was not just good, but GREAT! 5-stars rating." -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Feedback, 3/26/2012

"Love this place! My husband and stopped in at the Los Olivos Wine Merchant and Cafe again this week while in the area. This was our second time at this restaurant within 6 months, and we will surely return again. We arrived at 5:45 on a Thursday evening. The place is cozy, with seating outside, by the windows inside, and near a nice fireplace - as well as ample within the restaurant. There is a huge wine selection - and you can also purchase bottles of wine to take home. There is a large bar area, jutting into the restaurant. The ambience is wonderful - tablecloths, soft lighting, and a very nice level of ambient noise - not loud and no blaring music. The menu is fabulous - and you can select everything from a burger to wonderful salmon - with a great assortment of salads and appetizers. There is even a selection of gourmet pizzas on the menu. We each had a glass of wine, our own salads, and we split an entree that included fresh salmon. As a dessert, we ate "lightly" and each enjoyed a home made cookie. The food presentation is exquisite. Each meal includes very fresh home made bread with butter. Our waitress, Karen, is also wonderful - and she even remembered us from the last time. The cost of our meal - including a nice gratuity - was $96. You can also choose to eat much more cheaply than we did and still have a great meal. We'll be back! 5-stars rating." -'Hutchss', Senior Tripadvisor Contributor, Trip Advisor, Benicia, California, 3/24/2012

"Had late lunch with the parents and they loved it. What we had: 2 kinds of pizza generous in size and fresh salad with raspberries & dried figs in a raspberry vinaigrette....yum! We also got a half bottle of Pinot noir (forgot the name but it was really good!) to pair the pizza with. This is the place to go after some wine tastings or when you're hungry for a late lunch. Early dinner starts at 5pm fyi. 5-stars rating." -Esther K., Yelp, San Francisco, California, 3/18/2012

"We're never disappointed at Los Olivos Cafe. Its a popular, lively place which definitely needs a reservation. The wine selection is excellent and the food matches. The staff is usually knowledgeable and can help with a wine pairing which is most of the fun. Our whole table would recommend the mushroom ravioli with the Chanter chardonnay." --OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Feedback, 3/16/2012

"This has become one of my favorite restaurants! I had the BBQ brisket sandwich and it was amazing! My girlfriend had a salad that included spinach and pears which was amazing. The pizzas look amazing, that's what I will be getting next time. I had a glass of wine that was very good. The dipping oil that comes with the bread is awesome! The outside dining area is great and the service was great as well. I highly recommend this place! 5-stars rating." -Josh G., Yelp, Goleta, CA, 3/15/2012

"Stopped for a wonderful lunch here on a Spring Sunday. High quality and fresh options with good soups, cheeses, pizza and specials. Nice interior and a front patio is great for people watching! 5-stars rating." -'Spi-kids_LA', Senior Tripadvisor Contributor, Trip Advisor, Los Angeles, California, 3/11/2012

"Heaping Portions and Cozy Setting! After a day of unseasonably warm temperatures, the evening chill had started to descend as we entered Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe -- just in time, they switched on their gas fireplace and the restaurant twinkled in the charming glow of good food and cozy tables. We ordered pasta dishes -- a delicious gnocchi dish with parmesan cheese, butternut squash and hazelnuts and papparadelle with a rich and yummy bolognese sauce that was dotted with chunks of tender beef and bites of earthy carrot. The pasta servings were beyond generous (we took home enough for two extra meals), so we didn't sample the elegant dessert menu at the restaurant. But our waitress talked us into taking home some fresh-from-the-oven cookies -- a fabulous sable shortbread cookie and a delicious chocolate chunk cookie -- we were so glad we did...the perfect breakfast the next day with our morning coffee. We wish we had been there on a Sunday to try their family-style meal. But if you find yourself in the wine country outside Santa Barbara, you won't be disappointed by the drive to Los Olivos!! 5-stars rating." -'Livingwatergirl'', Senior Tripadvisor Contributor, Trip Advisor, Orlando, Florida, 3/10/2012

"There aren't a lot of places to eat in Los Olivos but this one is a good option. I had a very yummy salad with apples and cranberries, my friend had a brisket sandwich, both delicious. Great selection of wines and good suggestions from the wait staff." -'Callan1034', Trip Advisor, San Diego, California, 3/8/2012

"This place is a true gem--especially if you only have to stumble across the street from the Fess Parker Inn & Spa. They take their menu very seriously and offer a fresh taste of local and seasonal dishes. The homemade stuffed ravioli reminded me of what pasta SHOULD taste like. It was delicious! We went with friends and everyone was happy with their meal. Fun atmosphere for friends and couples. Wouldn't advise bringing kids." -'Jonathon Q', Senior Tripadvisor Contributor, Trip Advisor, Los Angeles, California, 3/6/2012

"We went there during our wine tasting trip to the area for an anniversary. Started with the recommended Brie and were very impressed. Followed with butternut squash risotto and mushroom ravioli which were both also excellent. We paired these dishes with a 2009 Bernat Clarity from Santa Barbara and 2009 Amos Cellars Shepard Pinot from the Central Coast. We plan to stop here every time we visit the area and are highly recommending this restaurant to friends. 5-stars rating." -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Review, 2/26/2012

The diner really benefits from the cafe also being a bottle shop; the wine selection is very broad and also very reasonably priced. "Matt was so helpful. He gave great recommendations and personalized service. Thank you" -Teresa, Customer Feedback Card, Santa Barbara, CA, 2/8/2012

"One of the best restaurants anywhere! A soulful place with fresh food, responsive service, reasonable pricing. My wife and I went for dinner on Super bowl Sunday, when it was easy to snag a table. We chose the fixed price dinner and were surprised that it included a round of good local wine. My ravioli was homemade, buttery. My wife chose the ribs, perfectly cooked and tender with abundant vegetables. I liked the house wine so much, a Pinot better than anything I had sampled in three different local tastings, that I ordered five bottles to take with us. What really sets this restaurant apart is an entire long wall filled with more wine bottles than I have ever seen outside of a wine cellar. Wine fuels this place. relaxes its clientele, complements great food. Ask for a table by the fireplace. 5-stars rating." 'Gurnout', Trip Advisor Reviewer, Rye, New York, 2/5/2012

"Look at that body, I work out. But my body turns to jelly anytime I eat at "Los Olivos Cafe," the most seductive & tranquilizing of French restaurants and the most essential eatery in all of Solvang and Santa Ynez Valley. Ask the waiters about wine flights, they're generous. This time, I had a wonderful, supple wine Port to go with my hot fudge brownie & ice cream dessert ("Cafe Scream"). It's the Ripley's Believe It or Not of desserts, and you better start believing :) 5-stars rating." -Sean C., Yelp, Los Angeles, CA, 1/29/2012

"This Establishment is very lovely. It looks tiny from the outside but has tons of open space and a very modern look. The wine tastings are very good and depending on what you enjoy drinking the flights are great. The cafe turkey is delicious and the staff was great. I can't wait to drive up, stop in and enjoy more from the L.O. wine merchant cafe. 5-stars rating." -EJ S., Yelp, Torrance, CA, 1/24/2012

"After an exhausting day touring the local wineries it was time for a relaxing lunch. I had been once before to this restaurant for dinner and admit I first heard about the place from the movie Sideways. More importantly, I had read several good reviews which further prompted me to choose this quaint place. I was not disappointed. The quality of food and friendly staff not to mention the atmosphere make this one of the best restaurants in the San Ynez valley.
Lunch can range from salads and pizza to the best hamburgers around. Dinner is more upscale with local organic products and meats. I recommend the braised lamb shanks.Need a break for lunch or dinner then Los Olivos Wine Cafe is the place to go. Enjoy!!!

"Sophisticated, modern, fine dining in the middle of a sleepy town (of course, in the heart of wine country). The food was simply amazing. They also keep a wine list that will compete with any out there. My waitress wasn't as knowledgeable about wine as I would have expected, but deferred questions to the wine merchant at the bar who was fantastic -- incredibly knowledgeable, great suggestions. 5-stars rating." -OpenTable Diner, Online Customer Review, 1/14/2012

"On a recent trip into the Santa Ynez, we dropped in on the ever-popular Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe for a late lunch. We lucked out with one of the last available tables (without a reservation) and were greeted with friendly, attentive service. To drink, I went with a glass of red wine, the 2008 Bernat "Equality" Syrah, which was recommended by our waiter. My wine was exactly what I needed to start off my weekend in the valley; not too tannic, with a medium-body, moderate acidity, and not an overwhelming fruit bomb, either. After lunch, I walked over to the wall of wines they have to sale, which was made famous in the movie Sideways. They carry a large amount of producers from this region as well as other areas both domestically and some internationally, but after seeing a bottle of 2008 Hitching Post Highliner for cheaper than I have seen it at other wine shops (and at the restaurant), I grabbed a bottle of that to take home. I also perused their small beer section and took home a bottle of barrel-aged Old Rasputin Imperial Stout by North Coast for also much cheaper than other shops." -Frances L., Yelp Review, Los Angeles, California, 1/13/2012

"Consistently Outstanding for the Last Two Years! I recently visited the Wine Merchant Again - my boyfriend and I visit nearly every six weeks for lunch. There are not enough words to describe what a wonderful experience this is EVERY TIME. The food is spectacularly fresh - produce comes from local farms, and everything is always cooked to perfection. My boyfriend likes the roasted chicken with root vegetables - the chicken is moist and the vegetables are unlike anything I've ever tasted. I like the Salmon Salad (or as I like to call it, the "antioxidant salad"). It has fresh beets, salmon, spinach, marcona almonds, radishes, green beans, etc. It's fantastic. Also, the ambience is lovely. Aside from the occasional celebrity sightings, the decor is both chic and funky. The services is also very good, and the selection of wines is excellent. If you are ever anywhere remotely near to Los Olivos, make sure you visit the Wine Merchant for lunch or dinner!" -"ockathylovesred",Trip Advisor, 12/1/2011

The way they use fresh ingredients from the area is a big plus for me. Parm Gnocchi is to die for! I was in heaven when I walked in and saw more Santa Barbara wines than I knew existed. Much to our surprise, this is the restaurant that was featured in the movie. Great ambience with wood burning fireplace, spacious and excellent food. "Great experience, wonderful food, great ambiance!!!" -Rebecca, Los Olivos Cafe Customer Feedback Card, 9/22/2011

"So Nice! Great place with great wines. The drive form Santa Barbara is simply one of the best in the US. Caprese was extremely fresh and Pappardelle was excellent. Wait staff is relaxed-casual but there when you need them. They also are great wine pros who know what to recommend with dinner. The house Foxen Pinot was great. I'd go back in a heartbeat." -"Foodie06902," Trip Advisor, 9/21/2011

"This place has been a right of passage ever since I've been coming to Los Olivos. I always sit at the bar and try to hit up the happy hour. It's always changing but the pepperoni pizza was gourmet and you can't beat $5 vinos from 3-6pm! As seen in Sideways so make a pit stop-- it's worth it. Five-star rating!" -Robert C, Yelp, Los Angeles, CA, 9/17/2011

"Great experience! The hostess was friendly and accomodating. Our server was very nice, and did a great job. We love the ambiance. From the farm fresh salads and the spare rib dinner to the well stocked wine list featuring many gems from the local area it is hard to go wrong. The restaurant features a fireplace that divides the restaurant and is choice seating if you can get it. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Santa Barbara Wine Country area." -"JazzMat," Trip Advisor, Chicago, IL, 9/8/2011

"Love this restaurant and will come back whenever I visit Solvang. The food and service are excellent! I love the ambiance as well as the location in the small downtown area of Los Olivos. Definitely come here if you visit Los Olivos. I know I will be back!" -Charlene M., Yelp, Garden Grove, CA, 9/6/2011

"A gem in adorable Los Olivos! Shared the wonderful baked Brie for an appetizer and a margherita pizza for our meal. Both were high quality and prepared carefully. The olive oil with our bread was out of this world. Wine list was excellent, particularly the 05 Pinot and the Grenache blanc. Bought 2 bottles of the latter. Service was friendly and efficient. Atmosphere was modern yet quaint, some great decor." -Likeate07, TripAdvisor, Newport, VA, 8/27/2011

"There is a very impressive selection of both local wines and ones from other areas, including some from Europe, S. Africa, Australia, S. America. We had several bottles of a very affordable wine from their specials list to go with dinner. Food was from fresh ingredients and well prepared. Clientele was a mix of locals and swanky folks from out-of-town. Easy to tell the difference by the shoes - just like in Europe! We met folks visiting from the mid-west and they were suitably pleased. We would come back again and recommend it to folks looking for a relaxed dining experience. They also have a decent beer list if you just need to wet your whistle." -OpenTable Diner, San Luis Obispo, CA, 8/18/2011
